INTRODUCTION
It claims that self-motivation varies depends on age and gender whether what motivation they prefer, the intrinsic (self-fulfillment) and extrinsic motivation (reward and recognition). It is important to know what kind of motivation will apply to the employees to assess the management in getting out the best of their employees that will be beneficial to the organization as well as to the employees. As there are also companies that hire more female staff (example in accounting services) or male staff in (example in engineering services). This study will focus on male and female employee’s ages 20-40 years old and their preferences between the two motivations that are useful to improve their performance.
Self-motivation is the force that keeps pushing us to go on – it 's our internal drive to achieve, produce, develop, and keep moving forward. When you think you 're ready to quit something, or you just don 't know how to start, your self-motivation is what pushes you to go on says Sarah Pavey and the mind and tools team. And, according to Andrew J. Dubrin from his book (Human Relations for Career and Personal Success 7th edition) Self-motivation is important for achieving success in work and personal life. A well-accepted explanation of human behavior is that people have needs and motives propelling them toward achieving certain goals. The central idea behind need theory is that unsatisfied needs motivate us until they become satisfied. After satisfaction of one need, the person usually pursues satisfaction of another, higher need. Huang andVan de Vliert (2003) found a strong link between countries which were richer, had good government social welfare programmes, and were more individualistic and intrinsic motivation, and it is hypothesized that since these characteristics also apply broadly to the Maltese cultural
