Working in an organization that is growing rapidly, I have learnt and appreciated the importance of Leadership and Communication. Leaders are not always those in higher positions of organization; they should be present at every level which will help sustain success of organization over a long period. A good leader is one who is able to influence and lead people to achieve common goals of the company. In my short experience of two years in corporate world, I have come across people who lead others by example. It is a very challenging task to build a dedicated team, which can only be done by a leader who himself is highly dedicated. Leaders do not believe in controlling people, they challenge one’s skills and capabilities for the growth of individual and the organization in common. They do not fear failure, rather inspire and encourage teams to take calculated risks.
Having worked in an IT industry in India, I have experienced the strengths and challenges of dealing with diverse group of people. In India, most medium sized organizations have people speaking several different languages and come from various states and cultural backgrounds. As the Indian constitution says “Integrity in Diversity” is the strength of the country, the policy is well adopted in most of the organizations. I have observed that people in such diverse groups adapt to changes easily. Though there are many benefits of this diversity, it also brings challenges with it. In a situation of conflict, a leader needs to be impartial and objectively listen to everyone. They have to care equally for the well-being of all employees.
Technology of this era is evolving every day. It is necessary to keep up with these changes. I have observed that a good leader recognizes such challenges. They tend to organize team trainings or provide necessary resources for quality improvement. They never hesitate to learn from younger generation or their team members.
