Good morning 8B and Miss Ryding,
I am in front of you this morning to tell you the legend of the Selkies. Some people call them silkies but for today I will just say selkies. But before I continue I must explain what selkies are.
Selkies are beautiful creatures that live in the sea. They have a special seal-coat that they can remove and without it they look just like a regular human although better looking. The have sleek, long dark brown hair just like regular seals and their skin is pale. If they don’t have their seal-coat their skin wrinkles, hair greys and they become weaker and weaker as well as a cough. They are friends with all the animals of the ocean as well as mermaids, merman, huldras and sirens but one of their greatest friends are humans as we share the same love of the sea. There is a story of a human boy and a selkie who every day would meet at the beach near the boy's house. One day the boy lost his footing and slipped. He started sinking until the selkie child saved him. Many days later they were, as usual, playing on the beach when an old man started yelling to the human boy that he will have to get his seal-coat soon and when he does it will be all his. So the selkie and the human teamed up popping up and down out of the water while the man was running back and forth trying to catch them thinking that there was only one of them. Eventually he gave up and left but the boy and the selkie remained friends forever.

He said he would stay up on land although it would be the death of him. But she refused to be a widow so she suggested that they go see her grandmother. They visit her grandmother and tell her of their problem. The grandmother gave the fisher’s daughter a seal skin and said the wearer would become a selkie but can take it off
