Sensory Adaptation Analysis
One of the sections in the chapter that really stuck out to me was sensory adaptation. I learn how the body adapts naturally to its environment thought the five senses. I have some friends that I know and they are not the cleanest people or the best groom but are good people. The first time I enter into their home I smell a very musty odor like a Pet. My first thought about them about people that they were dirty individual that did not have any home training. The more I when over I didn’t smell anything; I thought that they had done away with the smell. So my wife comes over one day with me and she couldn’t handle the smell after being there for an hour. This Also explain to me about my friend’s improper hygiene. How he would come out of the …show more content…
The other section that grabs my attention was perceptual set. What is the expectation of a person to see or perceive something based on prior experience? I find myself see and also doing this quite often just with a lot of thing in my life. For example when I was young I hated tuna, could not stand it because of the smell. As a kid I associated bad smelling thing with have a horrible taste and nasty. So it was not until I was twenty two years old that I had first eat tuna and I love it. It just amazing to me how the brain can take past and present situation and compose a logical explanation to what can happen. I am now seeing the world a lot different now after reading this chapter. I’m now being more aware of my surrounding noticing thing about my wife or other people. Started to see that people are not weird or crazy just different and that ok. Our psychology makeup is made up a lot of different component. Some are influence by culture, race, geographic, but no matter what category you fall in the body will naturally adapt. I use to work in the recovery room when I was in the military and it amazing how baby can with stand a lot of thing adults

As the chapter unfolds you can get a good sense of the author’s voice and opinions before she starts the experiment. This is important because over the course of the chapter her morals and opinions start to change as she begins to feel the pressures of working for her food and living arrangement. The author’s attitude is very expressive and she goes into detail on several occasions of how she is starting to feel about the conditions of the lower class and their labor, and also the physical strain it is putting on herself.…

I enjoyed this book thoroughly and always kept me intrigued until the end. It had small twists in it that were rather easy to interpret but it was also very interesting. Chapter 6 appealed to me because I can relate to the concepts and problems they considered. The one I related most to was the “alligator brain,” and how it takes over in stressful situations, which makes it difficult to remember things (p. 72). This is relevant to me because I do not stress about the test until I am taking the test and come to a question that I do not know. When this occurs, that question and…

More switches in my brain began to turn on as I progressed into the first chapter. It starts off with an innocent scene involving a young girl by the name of Leila. I like the Brizendine’s writing style. The introduction lays some function groundwork and then audience has to switch gears in their mind when Brizendine paints this sweet picture before us, only to bring us right back by saying “Common sense tells us that boys and girls behave differently. We see it every day at home, on the playground, and in classrooms. But what culture hasn’t told us is that the brain dictates these divergent behaviors.” (Pg. 12, Brizendine) I think because we are so influenced by social inference that we overlook the science of it all. And how truly magnificent the human brain is. It is not to say the sociological aspect isn’t important, but it got me thinking. As I read further, I kept finding myself going back to my childhood and hearing my…

This week I have learned lot from Visualizing Learning from Chapters 3, 13, and 14. All the vocabulary words and meaning through pictures all made sense after reading and the examples that were used. I had no difficulty with any of the terms that were used in each of these chapters. I have learned a lot especially in Chapter 14 with Cognitive Therapy and Goals of Psychotherapy. They were self-explanatory and had great examples next to them to help steer me in the right direction. I tend on using what I know out in the real world as well. This week opened my eyes to a lot. In Chapter 15, learning about empathy-altruism hypothesis and egoistic model of altruism, meaning if we had more people in the world that act this way, then there would be less selfish people out there. With different types of therapy out there people do not have excuses on why there is no help at all. Knowing the right people can get you the right help.…
