Chapter 6 appealed to me because I can relate to the concepts and problems they considered. The one I related most to was the “alligator brain,” and how it takes over in stressful situations, which makes it difficult to remember things (p. 72). This is relevant to me because I do not stress about the test until I am taking the test and come to a question that I do not know. When this occurs, that question and
others after it, I struggle with, which leads me to think that this is a reaction to my “alligator brain” (p. 72). Overall, this chapter applied to me in many ways, because I think creatively and inventive in everyday life, but for school I do not, which needs to change.
This chapter taught me many ways to accomplish the changes I need to execute. One way is being mindful, which means being actively questioning, engaged, and considering others perspectives (pp. 74-75). Being mindful will help become creative and unique because it does not allow immediate acceptance of what is heard, it makes sure that your own assessment is done. I plan to utilize these skill in my life by trying to be more actively engaged in my classes and schoolwork, instead of just doing what needs to be done.
Overall, this chapter provided many techniques and ideas to think creatively. This chapter, helped me identify and become aware of outside forces that could alter an outcome. This allows me to be aware of everything all the time, so that I do not just follow another’s information blindly.
