Servant Leadership Thesis
Like you, I am very passionate about leadership. My first proposed dissertation topic was “Servant Leadership.” At my Residency, I was encouraged to change it to “Teachers' perceptions of disabled and "ESL" students in urban schools; impact on families.” Though I am not writing on servant leadership, I can still incorporate the servant leadership philosophy to my current topic. For example, researchers present a vision for school leadership to serve culturally better and linguistically diverse (CLD) students (Reynolds, 2015). Knowing that the United States is predicted to have a preponderance group of people of color by 2060, the country will continue to increase in linguistic and cultural diversity as a result of immigration trends. The most interesting part of the book that I reflect on is chapter 3 on the model, because it uses the paradigm shift (upside down pyramid symbolizes the servant leadership model according to, Hunter) concerning change in environment, such as doing things in a different way to change your life and meet goals. Hunter uses leadership, authority, service & sacrifice, love and will as the essential influences to align your behavior to influences with intentions and actions to lead with will power of loving what you do.…

Fundamentally, servant leadership entails leaders being servants first. It starts off with a natural feeling that one wants to serve, and goes beyond one’s self interest, where leaders are genuinely concerned about serving their followers. Further, it also involves leaders not using their power to get things done but instead try to persuade and convince their followers. In this way, followers support their leaders and are motivated to become the very best they can become (Dierendonck, 2011). Indeed, servant leaders do care about the development of their employees and even share power.…

Lori, I truly enjoyed your interview response on Reverend Jennifer Beagle. I can agree with her statement on developing a ministry, “It’s a battle worth fighting, suit-up, buckle-up, and don’t doubt that God is in everything. Find God in every circumstance and view people as creations”. (Beagle, 2015) Just as the varying parts of the human body need each other to best accomplish its work, so the Body of Christ needs to function interdependently, like a team. (Rom. 12:4-8; 1 Cor. 12:12-27) God so designed the Church that it "grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work". (Eph. 4:16) Christian leaders are servants. Jesus specifically addresses servant leadership…

“A servant-leader focuses primarily on the growth and well-being of people and the communities to which they belong. While traditional leadership generally involves the accumulation and exercise of power by one at the “top of the pyramid,” servant leadership is different. The servant-leader shares power, puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible.” ~ Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant…

Also emphasizes that leaders should share the control with their followers. Although this is true, there still exist problems with servant leadership which are that the name does not directly translate to leadership and is not seen as serious as the other approaches. The model also includes conceptualizing, which is not unique to this model but it does not seem to really have a place in servant leadership and not been clearly explained. However, servant leadership can be used in every organization and every level of management. And has been used extensively for over 30 years. The servant leadership questionnaire is a strength of this leadership, which I was able to take. After taking the questionnaire I scored high in emotional healing, helping followers grow and succeed, conceptual skills, and behaving ethically. While scoring moderately in the following creating value for the community, empowering, and putting followers first. My highest leadership behavior was behaving ethically. I believe this is due to the scrutiny my position faces from the media questioning the ethical behaviors of fraternities. As vice president, I make it one of my top priorities to make sure all officers are acting in line with the ethics laid…

Throughout high school I have been blessed with the opportunity to experience positions of leadership. As taking roles as both a follower and a leader in democratic groups such as football, student council, and especially marching band I have learned the significance and dedication of servant-leadership. I am honored to have been given the position to be drum major during my junior and senior so I could strive to enrich the extraordinary experiences music has to offer to fellow peers. Through an attitude of servant-leadership, perseverance and passion I have been privileged. Hence, I dedicated and invested myself in a program that has blessed me with several breath-taking experiences that opened my eyes to a new perspective on the world and on what my destiny holds.…
