This section was amended when David Paterson, the New York Governor, signed the law Assembly Bill, which provides sex trafficking victims with post-conviction relief from charges relative to prostitution when forced to do so (Barnard, 2014, p.1463). This is the opportunity for the individuals to not be treated as criminals, but as victims by dropping charges for acts not necessarily done willingly.
