I. Introduction
A. Topic
1. Research question: Why does the media promote sexualization of girls, and what can the parents and consumers do to prevent this from happening?
2. Thesis: Sexualization of girls is a problem because it leads to teen pregnancies and has a negative effect on girls' self-esteem; two solutions are to have more sex educational programs available in schools and to impose more restrictions on the media in regards to sexualizing girls.
3. Angle: The media have focused on sexualizing young girls to sell their products for quite some time even at the expense of the self esteem of the girls. I will show that there are better ways to build the girls up rather than breaking them down.
B.
Context
1. Teen pregnancies have become an issue in recent years and the media's role in sexualization of girls at such young ages causes more damage to their self-esteem and physical well-being that cannot be ignored.
2. This subject is important to me not just because I have a daughter but because I also have a son that along with teaching my daughter good morals and self respect, I want to make sure that I teach my son respect for women. I intend to do research on the topic so I can establish some credibility so I can shed light on the sexualization of girls. C. Audience
1. My primary audience will be parents regardless of current or expecting parents.
2. My secondary audience is my peers, some who are parents themselves.
3. I believe that my audience will share my opinions and be on my side.
II. Evidence
A. Research I've collected thus far is some articles from APA (American Psychological Association). They share the same views as I do. They have done some research on the sexualization of girls that brings very valid and interesting points to the table. I've also searched on the DeVry library and Google.
B. Research that I intend to do will only better my understanding of the subject. I will look into the child pageant shows to find out what motivates the participants to subject their children to such sexualization.
