Sexually Transmitted Diseases are Plaguing the Nation
In the article that I read, it stated that approximately 110 million Americans are infected with a sexual transmitted infection and 20 million people are added to the list every year. Half of the people who are infected are in between the ages of 15 and 24. According the article it cost 16 billion dollars a year in medical costs just to treat people with sexually transmitted infections.

My Opinion My thoughts on the article are that this country is ignoring the risk of getting a sexually transmitted infection even though getting one is a pretty serious deal. I also can see how half of the people who are infected, are between the ages of 15 and 24 because one, they aren’t educated on these kind of things and two; they think that condoms prevent you from all infections.

A report from the Centers for Disease Control reveals that approximately 110 million Americans are infected with a sexual transmitted infection. Every year 20 million people are added to the list. Half of the newly-infected are young people between the ages of 15 and 24.
Physicians point out that there is more screening, meaning that disease is getting reported more.
According to Russia Today, the epidemic is costing the country nearly $16 billion a year in medical costs, but sexually transmitted diseases can be prevented through awareness and protection. More information on prevention can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

In Eastern Europe between 1995 and 1999 the incidence of gonorrhea was significantly increased. (WHO/EURO, 1996).The U.S CDC estimates that only 50% of gonorrheal infections are actually reported since the disease often illustrates few or no symptoms. In 2012 the CDC reported 334,826 cases of gonorrhea in the United States with the rate of infection at 107.5/100,000 persons. There was decline in the gonnorheal disease rate from 1975 to 1997 due to significant control programs throughout the 1970s; however, 2012 marked the second consecutive year of increased incidence of gonorrhea. In the United States highest rate of gonorrheal infection is seen in young adults and African Americans; however, between 2002 and 2006 there was 7.7% decline in the the rate of cases per 100,000 population in African Americans (Miller W.C et al., 2004). Between 2005 and 2006 all racial and ethnic groups except Asian/Pacific Islanders saw slight increases in gonorrhea infections. American Indian/Alaska Natives experienced the greatest increase of 22.9%, followed by 17.7% among Caucasians, and 11.8% among Hispanics. A decrease of 1.4% was observed among Asian/Pacific Islanders. (Weinstock H et al., 2004)…

Many teens today are more prone to catching a sexually transmitted disease by being sexually active. From my judgment I see in today’s generation, most teens think by simply doing it and losing their virginity, they’re accepted in society’s standard. Teens think it’s so cool or in other cases some may even think they finally reached their ‘manhood’, when in reality, it’s nothing like that. Having sexual intercourse isn’t and shouldn’t be based on popularity, it is something that should be taken seriously. There are a lot of risk when deciding to have intercourse with someone else, especially if you’re not being careful. Teens are not aware that there will be consequences such as getting pregnant and catching a sexually transmitted disease (STD). When it comes to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), the United States offers woefully inadequate education says Familyfirstaid (2004). The most common mistake a teen can make is thinking that their body is immune to STD’s. Chlamydia is a silent but deadly STD if not treated well and is one of the common one that teens can get and not even know, according to Chlamydia Quick Cure.…

The CDC estimates that there are over 110 million sexually transmitted infections at any given time in the US alone. Furthermore, one of the leading risk factors for contracting an STI is being within the age range of 15 to 24 years old, which encases the large majority of all undergraduate students in college. This goes hand in hand with the growing prevalence among young adults in finding sexual partners online and off dating apps. The issue of STIs also correlates to the significant problem of unplanned pregnancy. With almost half of all pregnancies unplanned in the US, preventive services are imperative to raise awareness and improve these…

A recent study from the Centers for Disease Control warns that, ¡§while the rate of new AIDS cases reported among people born before 1960 appears to be reaching a plateau, the rate among younger Americans continues to escalate¡¨(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1995). And AIDS threatens to become endemic among particularly vulnerable young African Americans. Young people of color, gay, youth, and young women who have sex with HIV positive men are at the center of this expanding epidemic. The National Academy of Sciences has reported that the United States has the highest rate of sexually transmitted diseases of any developed country and that, ¡§an effective national system for STD prevention currently does not exist¡¨ (Institute of Medicine, 1996).…
