Shakara Feature Article
The reporter stated Shakara is a transfer student and has been in the current school district three months. According to the reporter, Shakara comes to school smelling like urine and feces. The reporter stated the child’s odor is very obvious and she is bullied by other students while in class and on the bus because of her smell. The reporter stated Shakara is constantly sent to the office because her odor is disruptive to her teacher’s class. On 10/26/15, Shakara smelled like feces and had something brown on her pants; the reporter stated that the child may have defecated on herself. Ms. Jones mentioned times when the child has been at school and her menstrual started; Shakara’s clothing was soiled because of her cycle and she had to sit in the soiled clothing all day because her mother will not return the school’s calls. …show more content…
Williams once and was told she was not able to pick the child up from school because she did not have a car. The reporter stated there are rumors that multiple families live in the home with the child and her mother, that Ms. Williams does/doesn’t work, and that the home doesn’t have running water at this time. The reporter stated maxis, tampons, and clothing have been provided to the child in the past and when asked if there is a need for resources in the home, Shakara says she has more than enough. The reporter is unsure if the family has history with DHS at this time. The reporter also stated that there is a concern for a lack of food in the home.
