This article spoke to me not only because I'm a woman, but because it seems that people are finally giving credit where credit is due. I feel like women deserves to be recognize more aroung the world. We do so much more than we're credited for. Throughout American history, you read about what those women did for America. Without a lot of them, we wouldn't be where we're at today. As Mr Lew mentioned. "I said we were going to listen, we really listen." I'm beyond happy that they're ready to listen to women.…
The American bestselling author Susan Cain promoted her book ‘Quiet’ at the 2012 TED conference. Her passionate speech made a case for the quiet and reflective. She criticized convincingly a society that undervalues the capabilities of introverted people.…
Good evening ladies and gentlemen of the jury I have lived in other places and went through the same things as Salem are going through with this witchcraft nonsense. Everything that I’ve heard and seen has definitely been happening here because of this woman Mary Warren. Once I heard about this nonsense I knew Mary Warren had to be prosecuted. Do you guys really think that she is such a great person? I personally don’t think so there is definitely hidden evil behind that supposedly innocent face. Ms. Warren has many flaws behind her that proves that she is behind all this mysterious witch craft that has occurred recently in Salem; and your reason has always been right in front of you.…
This lecture was very inspiring because it made me realize how brave Gloria Steinem had to be. In our world, it is so hard to stand up for what you believe in. You can be ridiculed, harassed, and even punished for it. I think that the one thing that holds us back most from standing up for our beliefs is the idea of what others may think of us. We rely so much on the opinions of others to validate our own lives, that we live in fear of what will happen if we go against the…
In 2011, Robyn O 'Brien spoke at a TED talk conference in Austin, Texas on the controversial topic of Genetically Modified Organisms, or GMOs. She lectured the audience on the importance of Americans knowing what goes into our food that we eat. O 'Brien revealed many shocking statistics about the correlations between cancers and food allergies to the modern modifying of the milk, soy, and corn industries. She made herself known as the run-of-the-mill stereotypical mom who was unaware of the additional ingredients in our food until one day her child broke out in an allergic reaction to a product that had been genetically…
Dr. Carson was invited to speak to students a school in Chicago. Before he spoke, Dr. Carson attended a reception where many different school officials and religious leaders told him about the troubled school that he was going to speak at. All the rumors caused the doctor to worry about the welcome he would receive from students. When he walked into the auditorium of the school his worries vanished as students applauded, and cheered for their guest speaker. For his speech, Dr. Carson told a story about being seen as cool or being seen as a nerd. It started with the cool guy having a nice car, a beautiful girlfriend, a varsity jacket, and what seemed like the perfect and ideal life. Then there was the nerd riding on the bus with an armful of books and a very low social status. After a few years, the cool guy did not do well in school and ends up working at a fast-food restaurant while the nerd gets a scholarship and heads off to college. A few more years go by and the cool guy still works at the fast-food place and is still cool. The nerd finishes college and takes a job at a Fortune 500 company and gets contacts, some suits, and a new car. All the girls in his old neighborhood then want to know him, not the "cool"…
I. For many generations it has been believed that the woman's place is within the walls of her own home. But I am here today to tell you otherwise. I am here to tell you forget what others have told you. America is changing; therefore you must change with it.…
He states that today about 60% of bachelor’s degrees and graduate degrees go to women. There is about the same amount women and men in the workforce which twelve are currently dominated by women. If it’s even in the workplace then why aren’t there more women Fortune 500 executive positions. Why are women only making seventy-seven pennies for every dollar made by men? He says childbirth is the cause of it because it takes out women from their careers for month’s even years while it doesn’t affect men at all. He also asks why some women make it while others don’t and that’s because sexism and pay discrimination are still realities we have today. Richard brings up Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg in his article; Sanberg encourages women to negotiate more, be more assertive and forget about being liked. Sanberg blames that it’s only the women’s fault for not being and getting where they want to be. Men do everything they can every day and as women they want everything but know it’s silly to believe that will ever happen. While women do more of the housework men have to deal with the time being away from home, inconvenient travel, and many weekends on the computer. Even though there sacrifices might not be the same sacrifices as women they still do sacrifice the time being away from home and wanting to be…
Some ask why their employee’s are not self-motivated and what it takes for them to become motivated. As Simon Sinek says in How Great Leaders Inspire Action, People don’t buy what you do but they buy why you do it. All great inspirational leaders think, act, and communicate in the same fashion. They all used the question why in all of their thoughts. They want to know why something works and they want to know why people buy a product.…
Growing up in America while having parents from Bangladesh was always challenging. My sister and I were raised learning about Bengali customs and culture while also learning about the American customs and traditions in school. Life in Bangladesh is distinctly different; young girls are taught from an unusually young age that their purpose in the world is getting married and tending to her husband's needs all her life. Thus, growing up to old fashioned Bengali parents, my sister and I learned skills such as cooking and cleaning that my mom believed were necessary to know. However, being a citizen of America I became exposed to woman's rights, and the opportunities women in America were fortunate to have. In Bangladesh, young women are always second in line when it comes to opportunities such as education. Over the years, however, women in Bangladesh learned to exercise their rights and fight for equality. In America, we are taught that a woman obtains the same number of opportunities as a man anywhere, most importantly education wise. In America just like many other countries, women have continually fought for equality, whether it was simply to vote in an election, or to play in an all males sports team. I believe years of relentless fighting for woman's rights have paid off, and an Universtiy such as Meredith exemplifies just how far the world has come to accepting woman's rights. Universities such as Meredith can help a woman focus more, which can in turn help her future. That is what America is known for; everyone obtains equal opportunities to get an education and become successful if they work hard to do so. America has come abundantly far in equality for all, but there still remains strong competitions in the workplace between male and female workers. In recent news, it can be seen that discrimination against females still takes place in the workplace. I believe women should never doubt themselves when it comes to professional circumstances, which is why I…

The ceremony was a year after Hurricane Katrina devastation. Ellen bonded with them emotionally by telling a tragic story of her girlfriend being killed in the accident. She tells the graduates about her ‘discussion with God’ after her girlfriend passed away.…
On May 9 2016, I watched the TED Talk of Cesar Harada, teacher. He explained how adults should let children experience the bad and harmful things of the world. Specifically he claimed that parents should let their children experience the harmful things because they can use their imagination to find a solution to the problem. As he said “We can no longer afford to shield the kids from the ugly truth because we need their imagination to invert the solutions.” Although some people believe that kids should be kept away from ugly images, Harada insisted that we must. He stated that kids get amazed and surprised when they view images that they have never seen or even thought of before. In addition, when Harada showed his students an image of a 10…
In the Ted talk, Sherry Turkle talks about how with the rise of technology we are experiencing a change in the dynamic of relationships we have with each other. Instead of interacting with one another in group settings, such as classes or meetings, we are on our phone, computer, or tablet. She brings up the topic of being together while not really being together. People are more likely to hide away in their phones than to engage in conversation with one another. Turkle explains the idea that many people have about conversations are that they are too unpredictable. Unlike texting, emailing, or instant messaging we can’t delete or edit what we say since it is in real time. I can vouch for this because for example in an argument where things can get heated very quickly, by texting I can take a time out or delete something that I shouldn’t say. Arguing face to face is much more risky because I can’t take a second to cool off or to figure out the right way to say something.…
Supporters claim that there is no equality, women face sexism every day, and there is still a wage gap between the sexes. First off, women have been fighting for equality but it still has not happened. In fact, historically women have been considered inferior to men intellectually and a primary source of evil and temptation which has not changed yet from this day (“Women’s History” 1). As stated, women are seen as wicked things that are controlled by men. Secondly, most, if not all women face sexism every day. Research done on Yale University in 2012 says, “Both male and female science professors were less likely to hire and mentor women than they were men”, simply because women are being undercut and have no confidence to get to the top…
