Short Case: Management
Since the Secure Bank and Big Oil has been working together for two years through phone calls and e-mails. Secure Bank decided their senior executive would carry out the deal to closure. Julie is a female; and highly recommended with her knowledge and involvement with the oil field and oil product department with several companies. Saudi Arabia being behind where diversity is concerned and caught by surprise that they would be answering to a female executive; Julie should have been involved with the calls concerning sales involving Big Oil discussions that would create an agreement. This would have proven creditability; however, Julie was just given basic information with the papers to be signed in Chicago. Sales had assumed that Big Oil executives understood Julie would work with them.
With my experience, whenever I assume that the person had understood what I had told them; however, later I realized that they didn’t get anything or hadn’t understood me only to later find problems. I have learned my lessons and now I make sure that I am clear and understood before moving on. There was no clarity right at the beginning between Secure Bank and Big Oil about having a woman executive representing Secure Bank. When I realize that the Big Oil executives did not want to work with any women because of their culture; I would have had a private meeting with Julie and discuss on a win/win solution. Perhaps Julie could assign a male assistant reporting to her to interact with Big Oil executives and complete this

In this case study, the action takes place on the trading floor when Poseidon Cruise Lines wants to finance the construction of a new cruise ship that will be built by a French shipyard. The shipyard required payments in francs which created currency risk for Poseidon. Linda, a top salesperson, was assigned this transaction. She had developed a close relationship with the chief financial officer and treasurer over a year and a half of Poseidon being a client of FirstAmerica Bank. She used their trust and exclusivity to manipulate this new transaction to benefit her greatly. It took over three months for Linda and the CFO of Poseidon to create a structure that would hedge the company from all currency exposure and to create the lowest possible all-in cost in dollars. The plan was for FirstAmerica and Poseidon to enter into a “cross-country interest rate swap” where the francs would be paid to the shipyard. Part of the plan was also for Poseidon to buy three “forwards” from FirstAmerica which would lock in the future exchange rates. Linda also convinced the CFO that the structure she created made the most sense because it would save on transaction costs by being fewer transactions. She discouraged Poseidon to shop for rates saying it would upset the market, and doing this allowed her to quote rates much higher than the normal rates would be for this customer. Linda used reasons for rates being high were things that did not have an actual price for the benefit, such as market liquidity and credit risk. Linda was charging $12.5 million to hedge their risk, and there was no lucid reason why Poseidon’s transaction would be so much. Using persuasion Linda guided Poseidon’s CFO to follow her opinion and reasoning, and further tried deceiving him by comparing the high rates she quoted to a situation where a 10% government withholding tax was involved but not stated in the sheet. This situation is not comparable…

What do As a new member of the board of directors for a local bank, jack nelson was being introduced to all employees in the home office. When he was introduced to Ruth Johnson, he was curious about her work and asked her what the machine she was using did. Johnson replied that she really did not know what the machine was called or what it did. She explained that she had only been working there for 2 months. She did, however, know precisely how to operate the machine. According to her supervisor, she was an excellent employee. At one of the branch offices, the supervisor in charge spoke to Nelson confidentially, telling him that “something was wrong” but she didn’t know what. For one thing, she was explained, employee turnover was too high, and no sooner had one employee been put on job than another one resigned. With customers to see and loans to be made, she continued, she had little time to work with the new employees as they came and went. All branch supervisors hired their owned employees without communication with the home office or other branches. When a opening developed, the supervisor tried to find a suitable employee to replace the worker who had quit. After touring the 22 branches and finding similar problems in many of them, Nelson wondered what the home office should do or what action he should take. The banking firm was generally regarded as a well-run institution that had grown from 27 to 191 employees during the past 8 years. The more he thought about the matter, the more puzzled Nelson became. He couldn’t quite put his finger on the problem, and he didn’t know whether to report his findings to the president.…

London Heathrow Airport or Heathrow (IATA: LHR, ICAO: EGLL) is a major international airport serving London, England, known as London Airport from 1946 until 1965. Located in the London Borough of Hillingdon, in West London, Heathrow is the busiest airport in the United Kingdom and the third busiest airport in the world (as of 2012) in total passenger traffic, handling more international passengers than any other airport around the globe.[4] It is also the busiest airport in Europe by passenger traffic and the third busiest by traffic movements, with a figure surpassed only by Charles de Gaulle Airport and Frankfurt Airport.[5] Heathrow is London's main airport, having replaced RAF Northolt and the earlier Croydon Airport. The airport sustains 76,600 jobs directly and around 116,000 indirectly in the immediate area,[6] and this, together with the large number of global corporations with offices close to the airport, makes Heathrow a modern aerotropolis which contributes an estimated 2.7% to London's total GVA.…
