Short Story: Moving Away
Short story “Viola! Get down here, we’re leaving!” said my mother.
I yelled back, “Coming Mom!”
Our world is gone...we have nothing left except ash and rubble, and the worst thing is we’re leaving. I know it sounds crazy but I’m not. We’re leaving this crappy hell of a place to go to some place none of us have ever been to. People have gone there before, but they haven’t come back and they haven’t told us if they survived or not, so yeah the worst thing is leaving because we’re going to the unknown. They call it the new world, where it’s supposed to be an amazing perfect new place where we can all live and be happy, but honestly it’s just going to turn out to be just like the old world, dead and gone to crap.
As I finished up packing my things, there was this big BOOM! I

He kept mentioning the name Todd. Every single day Id catch him walking by or staring at me from a nearby tree.
One day, I stalked him home...I was not prepared for the journey. I had to assume he knew I was there but I didnt know because he didnt acknowledge me at all if he did and he didnt care. I saw these buldings, they were some oddly shaped huts, and they were right in the middle of a swamp that stunk horrifically.
Then i saw todd, He was beautiful and very attractive. He had a dog with him, and it was one of the cutest dogs in the world, just one problem. He could talk...not that well but he could talk just like Arron did through his mind or whatever it was and so could Todd. After he left I went into one of these buildings found a comfy spot on the ground and fell asleep and the next thing you know its morning, or early in the afternoon because the suns right at the top of the sky. Then I start to really relize that Arron is watching me from the other side of the

For me this is the scary experience because I have a kid in my chalk that is not even trained yet. It is my responsibility to protect him at all costs. If I make the wrong calls all of us could die, and I do not think I will be able to live with myself if my team died because of me. I have been praying all day that nothing goes wrong, and this turns out to be a simple snatch and grab mission, going all according to plan. The plane is taking off and I have never been this nervous or scared in my life.…

As Americans, we rely a great deal on the entertainment industry to educate us about things we don’t understand. In many ways, we live vicariously through the experiences of fictional characters and believe they learn many things from those fictional characters. For example, many people have said they learned about forensic techniques by watching the “C.S.I.” shows on television. They firmly believe that can assist in an actual criminal investigation because they have seen “experts” on television handle similar situations.…

He was younger than me but old enough to understand the difference between right or wrong. The dream was me and him in a place full of light and happiness, a place where only happiness, fun and teachings existed. I woke up smiling, prepared for the day that I would meet him. In the car, I fell asleep and dreamed some more. Since I had a sister at the time, and my mom was pregnant for another girl, I dreamed of a brother. Playing with a me at everything, sports, video games, art, drawing, and even talking (which little kids don’t like to do). I was happy that I would have a…

The short story “Where are you going, Where have you been?,” by Joyce Carol Oates, is a tale about a teenage girl making the journey from her known world into something she has never experienced before. The main character lives the normal teenage life listening to the latest music and going out with her friends to the mall. “They must have been familiar sights, walking around the shopping plaza in their shorts and flat ballerina slippers that always scuffed the sidewalk” (753). One night with her friends changes her life forever. Someone that notices her at the restaurant would eventually become the person that makes her leave everything she knows and enter a world she has never seen before as “she watched herself push the door slowly open as if she were back safe somewhere in the other doorway” (764).…

One’s final moments often leave many questions. “What will my final thoughts be?” or “What would my final statement to the world be?” Reflections on death are often avoided because death can be terrifying but, if forced to think about it, what would you do in the final moments of your life? The author of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Ambrose Bierce, wants the reader to focus on his or her final moments and how they might unfold. The author is able to make the reader feel as though he or she is actually sharing the protagonist, Peyton’s, terrifying experience and provokes reaction and deep feeling. The plot is intriguing, unique and takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster. By using character development, the author is able to make the main character personable and relatable. Additionally, the setting and it’s description, pulls the reader into the text and transports him/her to Peyton’s world. The author hooks the reader with these elements and ultimately forces him or her to reflect on his/her last moments of life.…

Everyone would agree that today’s youth is a little backwards, but let’s go farther than that. Looking at society as a whole, today's world is much worse than what it should be. There is a huge lack of empathy and too much sensitivity; the amount of close-minded people on this earth is crippling; major masses of judgemental people are dragging everyone down. There are many more issues, but that short list is big enough in it’s own way. Very few things would stay the same in the new world; it needs a lot of remodeling.…
