Short Story Of Charlie Gordon
Charlie Gordon wasn’t like the average person. He was a mentally challenged adult. People made fun of him and teased him and he laughed with them not even knowing what they were talking about. It was a very sad story but he still had lots of hope. All Charlie had ever wanted was to have friends. Doctors thought Charlie was special and he got the chance to get operated on so that he could be smart.
Charlie was better after the surgery because he understood more about the world. After the operation, he saw the truth about his friends, or who he thought were his friends. He realized that they really weren’t his friends because they laughed at him and teased him about being slow. After the operation, he proved to them that he could be smart. When he became smart, they feared him and the people at his job signed a petition for him to be fired. Instead of getting fired, he ended up quitting. …show more content…
Charlie was happy that he was learning new things and progressing.
He loved that he was becoming smarter every second. When he was smart he finally understood the rorschach test, which was something he had been struggling with before the operation. “He said that the doctors were trying to trick him and maybe there was no picture there at all.” People didn’t realize that Charlie could one day get smart and it shocked them when he did. Nobody would have ever thought it would happen and there were very few people that believed in him, even the ones that did were kind of skeptical about the operation. In the book the woman at the factory said that he should be careful because things like that just didn’t happen and it was very
uncommon.
At the beginning of the story Charlie thought Ms. Kinnian was very old. After the operation, he realized that she was only 34 and he started to realize that he had feelings for her. In the story Charlie said,”I don’t understand why I never noticed how beautiful Ms. Kinnian really is.” He even asked her out on a date. It was a very interesting turn of events, that I did not see coming.
In conclusion Charlie ended up regressing back to the way he was. When he went back, he upset a lot of people. Ms. Kinnian cried because he came back to her class and totally forgot that he wasn’t in it anymore. Joe and Frank took up for Charlie whenever somebody teased him, which meant that he finally got real friends. In the end he said that he was leaving town because he was upsetting a lot of people and he didn’t want things to be that way.
