Should Kids Have Recess Essay

Is not giving children in school recess hurting them? The answer is yes! There are so many good things that can come out of giving kids of all ages breaks or recess. The main 3 reasons are that not giving them a break for awhile can give them a brain overload. The next is that the country’s with the kids of the highest test scores have breaks very often, the last one is that it can help kids become healthy and get exercise in. All of these are benefits that are because of recess. The first benefit is that learning to much at once can cause a brain overload. In the article title titled ¨Do you need recess?¨ Written by Mackenzie Carro it states ¨Moving from subject to subject without a break can overwhelm your brain and make it more difficult to retain new information¨. Giving kids all these different things to learn and stuffing it into their brain without a break can really hurt the child, and just make them stressed and then they will end up only picking up half of lesson that the teacher is trying to teach them. In google, facebook and other big companies the workers get breaks with lego stations or play with karaoke machines. This helps the brain relax after learning lots of things. Country´s that have recess including Japan and Finland actually have the kids with the highest scores in tests. As scope writer Mackenzie Carro says ¨For this reason, some of the countries that outshine the U.S in test scores, including Finland and Japan, have multiple recesses a day.¨ We would benefit greatly if we only had 1 recess a day but we don’t even have that. The main reason that we took away recess was because in the 1980s American kids fell behind other countries in scores in school. But did we ever think that taking away recess would actually hurt the kids instead of help
