The lack of pay is the reason most fathers do not take time off. Only ten to fifteen percent of United States employers offer paid paternity leave (Paternity Leave). It will be hard for them, but they will have to push through.
Some men cannot afford to get paid time off. If their manager does not give them paid time off they have to work so they can provide for their household. So most of the time they usually do illegal things to help pay the bills. In the end, it will stimulate them into some serious trouble. To prevent that they should extend them some type of offer.
