Should People Be Allowed To Drive Persuasive Essay
As people get older, they tend to lose control of their senses. The human brain begins to slow down as you pass the 80 year old mark, and senses like your sight, reaction time, hearing, and even depth perception are affected more than you may think. I strongly believe it is unsafe to have people over the age of 80 to be on the roads driving. Because of their slowed senses, they cannot perform the tasks required to drive an automobile. Not everyone over the age of 80 have their senses drastically affected however. This is why I believe that people over the age of 80 should not be allowed to drive, without having further screening determining if they are safe to drive or not. Some people might argue, that not everyone over the age is impaired. This is true, but however, other people are healthier than others, depending on heredity, and prior decisions made in life. That is why further screening is necessary to determine who is safe to drive. With further screening, this would cut out the risk of car crashes including people over the age of 80. After the age of 80, people must continue to run their errands and get from point A to point B like always, but not if they are considered unsafe to drive. Today there are many convenient ways of getting from place to place with public transportation, or even uber where the will pick you up and take you wherever you need to go. This would be a safer alternative from having somebody who is potentially dangerous out on the roads. They would not only be putting their lives in danger, but the lives of others as well. Driving is an activity that requires all of your attention at all times because there can be instances that will pop up and require proper handling. In the screening that would be held for people over 80, this would include a series of reaction tests full of quick decision making and other tests. These tests would be able to tell you if you had the sight and reaction time necessary to drive. These rule would not be put into place to inconvenience the elderly, but instead to protect everyone on the
