I believe that schools should make students wear uniforms, while I was doing research I learned that there have been many debates on students wearing school uniforms. Kindergarten through twelfth grade students should wear school uniforms as well as the faculty and administration. Mandating school uniforms can bring about significant differences in the school system. Wearing uniforms can lead to safer schools, increasing student learning, and decreasing student behavior problems. The question still remains: Are school uniforms still a bad idea?
First, uniforms positively affect student safety by decreasing vandalism, fighting, and hazing. When students wear the uniforms they are no longer being judged by what they wear or what they look like. It no longer matters if one is able to afford the latest fashion. It is sad that today's society has come to a place where students are being beaten up or threatened because they wore something that somebody did not like. Wearing school uniforms completely eliminates that problem.
Second, the current state of the economy, and the shaky finical ground that it has created for most family’s wallets, makes it seem that school uniforms would save parents money. Which in turn could be one less thing parents have to worry about seeing that navy blue pants and polo shirts are inexpensive. Dress code aside, the interest in fashion and fad combined with peer pressure can lead to pressure to spend money that some families cannot afford. Wearing of school uniforms prevents the formation of dress-identified cliques and hopefully, a child’s social standing would be based more on individual character and less on their economic status.
