In addition to all the benefits stated, one of them being motivation can be helpful with taking school seriously. Mainly because students who do not have to have a good GPA can just continuously participate in sports and not care about their grades. Having a good GPA can help you to focus on studying and taking school seriously because school is important, and studying is an essential part of doing at least okay in school. Getting in trouble can mess up your record and your grades. Maintaining a good GPA in order to do sports also motivates students to work hard. Working hard in order to get good grades to then participate in sports keeps students from trailing off from their studies.
Besides good grades give financial benefits. Some schools/colleges offer merit money, money received based on academic, artistic, or athletic excellence. This money can help students with their college funds. Having a half-athletic scholarship combined with other half merit money can equal to having a full scholarship. Since full scholarships help with being accepted into a college , this is a really big relief. So, good grades give merit money, and this money can also encourage students to get even better grades to get even more of that money. With even better grades/better GPA, students will be able to participate in sports while maintaining a certain grade point average.
Meanwhile, coaches look for good grades.
The NCAA or National Collegiate Athletic Association, will not allow students to play sports unless they meet the required GPA and standardized test score. This is good since an actual association that has to do with college sports, agrees with the fact that student athletes should have to maintain a certain grade point average to participate in sports. Good grades also portray your character, coaches also look for character, whether it’s respectful, responsible, or even having good sportsmanship. Impressing a coach with good grades can be beneficial when trying to get selected into a team because there is a higher chance of being selected. As previously stated, good grades show character, and having good character can also help students be selected into a team. Nonetheless coaches look at everything, although athletic abilities is one of the thing they look at, grades are what matter the
most.
All in all, the fact that maintaining a good GPA can motivate, give financial benefits, and impressing a coach with good grades, is a great relief. Not all students will obtain a good GPA, but with these traits, it will help them in the long run.
