Should Teachers Be Paid For Eight Hours They Work

Would you like to work for eight hours a day and have to rely on kids to decide on your pay check? That’s an easy question; you wouldn’t. Even though some people feel that teachers should be paid based on their students’ test scores, I disagree. I think teachers should be paid based on the amount of hours they work, how hard they work and how effective their teaching is. If teacher pay is based solely on test scores, teachers may be stuck with students that don’t try, may be forced to only teach to the test or may not teach the way they think is best for sake of higher test scores.
The reason why paying teachers based on their students’ test scores is a bad idea is because some students flat out don’t try. It is not fair to have twenty students that work hard and study but have five that fail everything because they don’t care. That would dramatically decrease your check. On average 3,030,000 kids drop out of high school per year (Solmon). Those are the kids that don’t care and don’t try. Also, if kids don’t care, and they don’t like the teacher, they could do bad on purpose to try and lower the teacher’s check.
Sometimes, though, a teacher will have a better way of explaining something compared to the book. Especially the older the grade and harder the material being used. Most students learn better by teachers explaining what they think, instead of just reading out of the book. They can visualize it better. But if the students didn’t understand what the teacher was teaching, they would do badly on a test and there goes the paycheck. So out of feeling pressured, teachers would stick to the
