The language of India and the English has vast differences, and it is best to plan and research the language before presenting an argument to an audience in India. The language and cultural barriers between the United States and India are many, and before presenting an argument it is important to understand the cultural differences. This will ensure that the audience understands the point of view, and to make sure that the audience does not take offense to the word choice used during the presentation.…
In the schools it should be required for the teachers to teach about all cultures so…
Swish, Russell Westbrook made another 3 pointer off the fast break. He is a great point guard and is good at driving the ball in. If a player wants to get better and be as good as him I have a few steps that will help. The steps include: getting a basketball, wearing comfortable attire, staying hydrated, and have a basketball goal or court to play on. These steps can really help if a player does them right.…
I agree and believe that educators want students to become lifelong learners and develop critical thinking skills. I think that failure should not be feared, because from failure comes learning and through assessments learn what needs to be improved and why it failed. I work with ELL students, abed they are adults, so I have heard arguments that only a full immersion program teaches students a foreign language or English - in our case. I have also hear arguments against bilingual education in that it promotes antisocial relationships between native speakers and ESL students. One think everyone agree on in Gardner and Lambert's claim that learning second languages occurs if the (students and adults) are fluent in their first language (Gardner…
Some people consider that it is essential for a nation’s sense of identity to have a common…
While English-Only has been and continues to be a fervent movement in this country, there have been discrepancies in how this philosophy has been applied to certain groups. I would maintain that in the case of the Indians, boarding schools charged with this mission were of dire importance in implementing this ideology due to the sovereignty of tribes. Their English assimilation was of crucial importance because of the many languages spoken by tribes and the barriers to Anglo control that posed, as well, it would serve as a way to control the relations between tribes. Because the Mexicans were seen as exploitable labor, the policy of denying them education in order to keep them dis-empowered and working the land characterized their experience. Success through effective bilingual education was seen in many schools where Mexicans had control, yet English only movements were soon implemented as a tool to deny Mexicans education. This is still done…
In today’s society there are many people living in poverty. All across America there are different projects and reservations where the less fortunate reside. Statistics show that mostly minorities live in these different locations. Native Americans and African Americans are two of the more popular races living in these places. The group suffering the most in these situations is the youth. Although both Native American and African American children living on a reservation or in the projects experience a terrible community, have little to no faith, and a broken family structure, African American youth living in the projects have it worse than Native American children living on a reservation.…
Have you ever been somewhere and a person comes up to you asking for direction, but they don’t speak English. It can be very difficult to help someone in that situation that is why I feel that all immigrants entering the United States for permanent stay should learn English.…
The definition of multiculturalism in the Webster 's Dictionary is: "of or relating to a social or educational theory that encourages interest in many cultures within a society rather than in only a mainstream culture" (1984). There are many reasons why multiculturalism should be integrated into the curriculum of America 's schools. Multicultural education is an idea that seeks to develop the same opportunities for all students; it is not geared solely for the benefit of those from different racial, ethnic, and social-class groups, but it is also designed to help the middle to upper class white Americans (Banks, n.d.). The goal of multicultural education is to restructure schools, so that all students will achieve the knowledge, proper outlook, and abilities required to function in a diverse nation and world (Banks, 1993). It is important for multicultural education to permeate the curriculum in all grades and aspects of the educational system.…
The importance of supporting the rights of children and young people is that not all children are the same. They learn at different paces and many need support to help them e.g. one to one teaching, speech therapy, disability problems ect. They all deserve the right to learn and go to the school they choose. Also if you penalise a child because they come from a different back ground this makes them feel unwanted. Just because they can’t speak the local language or come from a different culture doesn’t mean they don’t belong. If they attend local schools they soon pick up the language (or get them a translator in to help them) and also gives them a chance to learn about the other cultures and helps everyone understand who they are and where they came from.…
In 1849, Henry David Thoreau disgusted by slavery and the injustices of the Mexican-American War wrote “On the Duty of Civil Disobedience”, where he states that civil disobedience is the deliberate defiance of a law to in order to change government policy or enact social reform. Civil disobedience was a major proponent in the women’s suffrage movement, Mohandas Gandhi’s campaign for independence in India, the civil rights movement in the USA, and the abolition of apartheid in South Africa. However there is a school of thought that sees civil disobedience as a major problem due to it seemingly advocating disorder. In most cases peaceful resistance to certain laws can have a positive impact. Civil disobedience has been the platform in which…

Today we see a language policy that uplifts each individual regardless of race, culture, ethnicity or religion. It promotes critical thinking which is an extremely important factor in this day and age to prevent an apartheid system from occurring again. It is an inclusive curriculum whereby it caters for adult education and training – ABET, Special needs education (Education White paper 6), recognises the importance of education development from grade R and promotes an anti biased curriculum. The education policy differs from the past language policies in that it allows “every student to be instructed in the language of his or her choice where this is reasonably practicable... every person to the freedoms of conscience, religion, thought, belief, opinion, expression and association within…
This site provides an argument that bilingual education should be completely integrated into schools. It attacks the old ways of forcing all English classrooms, and gives the idea that children should be allowed to speak their native language while in class while slowly learning English. The article argues that this concept is too tough for many people to understand.…
