Many college students reduce costs by staying in dorms with roommates. Remember the environment you live in can contribute to your success or failure in college. Living with roommates in a dorm room can be enjoyable, but think about staying at your home or with your family if you think that's better for you.…
Based off this essay I feel Rebekah was able to capture a very good view on the general dorm life on college. All though there were some differences between building structures and door decorating rules not much seems to have change from when she lived in a dorm to how dorm life is now. One of my favorite things to read was how amazed she was by how two people could adjust and fit so much stuff in a small room by building up. Being in a forced triple I instantly connected with this amazement. When I first visited my dorm I thought it was going to be a nightmare but now that I’m settled in things really aren’t that bad. I was surprised though when I heard that there weren’t any triples in her dorm hall, I was also kind of jealous.…
At first glance, many students are immediately drawn to the social environment of a university. Various universities including NCCU, UNCG, NC A&T and WSSU all provide socially adequate environents where students are given access to differentiating programs, parties, clubs, dances and events. Another common connotation referenced when accessing a university is the utilization of dorm rooms. This can serve as either a pro or a con, depending on a student's personal preference. There are students who may not mind sharing their space with another student, but there are also students who prefer a bit more privacy and seclusion. Having a…
This question continues to raise a compelling argument to this very day. The University of Notre Dame has a total of 30 dorms and they are broken down to 16 male-only and 14 female-only. According to an article posted on About.com:Alcoholism, a new study in the Journal of American College Health finds that 42% of students that occupy coed housing been have reported to take part in binge drinking on a weekly basis as opposed to 18% in single-sex housing. This article also reports that students in coed housing are more likely to have multiple sex partners during their residency. Jason Carroll, a study coauthor and professor of family life at Brigham Young University was quoted saying,…
Dorm students need a place to hang out with their friends. They don’t have a place on the cafeteria. Usually cafeteria is crowded. That’s why they need a place in their dorm so they can hang out or chat with their friends. Also, every room is different and that is not equal. I’m staying in four student room and I have a friend who is staying four student room too but the rooms are so different. My room is bigger than her and I have a lot of space but her room is so small and there is no space to hang out. In my opinion, every dorm room should be the same size because all students deserve to have a certain amount of personal space, privacy, and quiet room that they can live. Furthermore, students a need place that they can have privacy and place that they can enjoy hang-out with their…
Separate Classes “Living a life without people you need is like living in a world without oxygen,” said Demi Lovato. Imagine if the people that you need are a different gender and you can’t see them every day. Although kids being in different classes helps not have a distraction, kids should not have separate classes because it does not help them learn. Sometimes you will need someone of the different gender because science states that both are tested to be more disrespectful to the different gender because they have only known one gender threw out school. Kids/teens won't be prepared for the real world because in the real world you're going to have to talk to different people and what if your boss is a different gender than you and you can't talk to her cause you don't know how to.…
Before coming to college, I had made many naïve assumptions about Binghamton University. What if my roommate didn't like me? What if we have nothing in common? I thought long and hard about what my tiny dorm room would look like and had countless nightmares about sharing a communal bathroom. However, after arriving here, the experiences that I've made have altered my thoughts on college.…
The dorms that we live in now are far from the best. We live in a 10 x 10 box; well that's how it seems anyway. Our dorms have 2 beds, 2 desks, 2 closets, and a sink. We got lucky with the sink, but that doesn't make living in our hall any better than anywhere else. In the little rooms we also have to fit our TV, refrigerator and a microwave. With everything in place there is just enough room to walk around. One thing that causes problems in storage, storage in the dorms is very limited. We have an adjustable thermostat so we can control our own room temperature, but it often breaks and air conditioning goes out; that's no fun. We don't have bathrooms and not having a bathroom in our rooms is a pain in the butt. Why would anyone want to walk down the hallway at 2am just to go to the bathroom? The bathrooms in the dorms we have now are very unsanitary and disgusting too. I think bathrooms should be in all the rooms, just for convenience. All of the doors in our rooms have key locks and they do not lock behind you. Some people forget to lock the door and that often leads to serious situations…
I am writing because I am concerned about gender stereotypes hindering the learning of our middle…
I am one of those students who have grown up in dorms in my early educational life. Since I came to the United States I have had both of those experienced. I find that life at college dorm is by far, better than life at home or apartment. Especially Parents, jobs, and siblings are never a problem here for me, and I find it very relaxing. My parents are not here to tell me what to do, where to go, where not to go, or anything like that. My parents are always obstacles to whatever I do or say at home but I miss them sometimes. You depend on your parents at home, more so than you do now. But what I found out is that your parents still supply you with everything, so you really get the best of both worlds. Parents can be a huge bothersome at home when they become…
From the housing in the Vaughn center, to the Boathouse, to the Palm Apartment. Not only can you pick the different types, but you can also decide if you want to get a single, double and triple. All the rooms, whether single, double or triple differ in size, depending on the building. Not only are there different rooms in the different halls, but even within the same hall, it can still be different. In Smiley for example, there are two distinct kind of singles, like in The University of Miami, except we have a standard single and a large single. From all the different kinds of people, there are many diverse types of places to live in. Whether you are an introvert, and want to be with only a few individuals or an extrovert and want to meet a whole bunch of different people every time you step out of your dorm room. A lot of people live in the dorms, and with that also comes with different personalities. These range from people who like partying on weekdays to people who do not do it at all. There are also different types of religious backgrounds you will find, from Christian Jews, to…
It can be difficult to share a dorm or apartment with a roommate who is of a different sex. It can be hard to share a bathroom because one wants privacy. Boys and girls have different private parts. They will not be comfortable changing their clothes or walking around naked the dorm or apartment if they live with a member of the opposite sex. They also will be not comfortable talking about personal problems with a member of the opposite sex. Boys and girls are not the same. Boys do not express their feelings to everyone. They would rather keep it to themselves. Girls like to tell everyone about their feelings because they think it makes them feel better and they want advice. Also, It can be tough for girls to have a heart to heart with boys. To live with the same sex is always a good thing. It is usually easier to share a bathroom with a same-sex roommate. Same-sex roommates can share their clothes and shoes if they have the same sizes. That would be awesome because they do not have to worry about shopping for more clothes and shoes. To have a same-sex roommate will avoid any awkward situations.…
Pupils tend to learn better and faster in a gender-balanced environment. This is especially true for males, if there were only a few male pupils in a class, then these male pupils would not be as bright as the others, or they would be unable to reach their full potentials.…
These days, schools play an important role in our society as children spend a lot of time there. So, this fact that how schools are managed has a direct effect on the quality of student's education. The case in point is whether co-educational system could give us more benefit than single sex schools. In this piece of writing, I would like to express my personal views regarding the comparison of these two educational systems.…
Certainly the biggest problem would be the resulting lack of privacy for dorm students. Most college students like to relax in nightgowns, T-shirts or underwear in their rooms and halls when they are studying late at night, or in the mornings when they have just gotten out of bed. No matter how “liberated” we are, not many of us are going to feel comfortable doing that in the presence of members of the opposite sex. If twenty-four hour visitation is allowed, there will be both males and females in the dorms at all times of the day and night. No one will be able to venture outside her room, even for a minute or two, in nightgown or pajamas. How would you like to get dressed every time you want to go to the bathroom?…
