Have you ever thought about how teens don’t have the right to vote? Thought about how you, as the government have altered the rights of the young adults of today and their right to vote? Well, consider this. Today’s young adults would like to vote, but that isn’t possible. The young adults of today are mature, and well interested in voting. We should decrease the minimum voting age of 18 to 16 because teens suffer double standards, and that they should have the power to shape their own future.
The young adults of today suffer double standards just like adults; however, they do not have the freedom to vote. In fact, the teens of today still pay taxes, and are still being charged as criminals, just like adults. Furthermore, all of the taxes accumulated by teens all together in 2015 were over 2.2 billion dollars. To make this situation clearer, let’s look back at the 60’s during the Vietnam War, when President Eisenhower lowered the army draft age to 18. These young people, although having to suffer the burden of being forced to fight for their country, did not have the freedom to vote! Of course teens have to earn their way to the top by doing well in school, but they also should have the power to shape their future by being permitted to vote. Statistics from past presidential debates show that most politicians focus on benefitting the older people, rather than the youth.
