In Shrek, Princess Fiona is a beautiful princess who is locked away in a tower awaiting her knight in shinning armor. She was locked away in a tower and guarded by a dragon because her parents locked her away due to a curse put on her by a witch when she was child, "By night one way, by day another, Thus shall be the norm, Till you receive true love 's kiss, then, take love 's true form.", meaning as night falls, she turns into an “ugly” ogre. Shrek interrupts the wedding and kisses Princess Fiona, sharing their true loves kiss, which causes Princess Fiona to change into an ogre. Princess Fiona says “Yes. But, I don 't understand. I 'm supposed to be beautiful.” Shrek replies “But you are beautiful.” This teaches a great life lesson, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You may not think you 're not beautiful, but some one else might think you are.
“Don 't Judge a book by it 's cover” is a very commonly used quote, as well as honest and true. This quote is never stated in Shrek but it is strongly applied in a few situations throughout the movie.
