I have been volunteering at a local daycare for about 2 and half years. I volunteer my time every Tuesday and Thursday from the hours of 1:00pm to 4:00 pm. I only volunteer while school is in session unless the daycare provider informs me ahead of time that she will need my assistance on a weekend, school break, or vacation. The reason why I volunteer is because I like helping people, working with kids, and I want to have a career that involves working with children. The age group of kids that I work with is from the ages 1 to 13. During the time that I am volunteering I help assist the overall activities of the children in doors as well as outdoors. I do the best of my ability to provide a safe, caring, positive environment for the children. I also do crafts with the kids such as drawing, painting, and baking. During the holidays is when we do the most crafts, for example since it’s going to be Halloween we have been painting pumpkins, coloring pictures of how our houses are decorated, and drawing what our costumes are going to look like on Halloween. When we bake we mostly bake cookies and occasionally cupcakes. I assist them by helping them with the cake mix and finish the rest of the baking on my own. Once the cookies or cupcakes are cooled they are able to decorate them however they desire. I also help assure the health and safety of the kids. After the kids get out of school I help them with their homework and make sure that they understand the criteria. The kids usually have a weekly test every Friday at school and they know if they do well they will get a treat such as being able to bake and eat cookies or watch a movie. I have enjoyed the time I have had volunteering and working with the kids at the daycare center. I plan to continue volunteering for the rest of this year or until I get a job with the school district working with kids at an after school program. My goal is to try and work with older kids

Although, the volunteer work is part of the requirements for the Honors program, it is a way of life for me. I know the importance of helping those who are less fortunate or who are simply going thru. It also teaches our children how to have a giving heart, and to always be thankful for the blessings in their…

Each year in November I volunteer at The Basket Brigade. We assemble boxes full of food for the less fortunate to have for Thanksgiving/the holiday season. After assembling the boxes we each take 4-5 and deliver them to anyone who has requested them. This opportunity is very eye opening, it shows you how much a little kindness goes and how thankful people are that you care. I have also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for the last few years. This organization allows you to help pack food to send to children across the…

The place that I decided to volunteer at was the St. Thomas Church Pantry. The purpose of this service is to get food to people who have fallen upon tough financial times. One business skill that this group needs to keep the food pantry running is marketing skills. One of the struggles that food pantries have is not getting enough food donations of items they need. So, the leader of the pantry must ask for donations of the items that they run low on. This also means that the volunteers at the Pantry must take inventory on food items to ensure that they will not run out of certain food items. Also, they have to have a volunteer schedule just like most businesses this is to ensure that at least two volunteers will be working during the two days of the week that the Pantry is…

Since eighth grade I have volunteered regularly at Prodisee Pantry, a local food bank that gives out boxes of food every week. Prodisee was the first place I volunteered on my venture. Then I started to serve at my old middle school on Tuesdays, usually in the science department where I could offer the most assistance. From there I began leading a small group for middle schoolers at one of my churches on Wednesday nights. However, that was the extent of my service for the first two months of the year, but soon I did something completely new to remind me of the purpose of the 365…

I have had experience volunteering with the Urdd, supervising groups of primary school children at Glan-Llyn; where another member of staff and I were responsible for a group of children while they took part in various activities. Each Tuesday morning for the last year, I have volunteered at Ysgol Gynradd Cemaes at the Infants' department, where I helped the children with their work and spent time with small groups of children on specific tasks. During my time volunteering at Ysgol Gynradd Cemaes, I also spent time with pupils who suffered from learning difficulties, and this helped me to see how certain tasks have to be adapted in order for pupils of varying abilities to succeed. I have also played a large part in the process of transferring pupils in my school's catchment area from primary school to secondary school, by volunteering as a Year Twelve buddy, providing a point of contact at the school for the pupils if they felt in any way uneasy or upset. I was also part of a group of Year Twelve students who ran an arts club for pupils from years 3-9 where primary school children were introduced to the school and some of its current pupils and students through a series of arts and performance workshops. Through…

One of his teachers talk about of the flesh he thought him that I money and nice things were more important than Nirvana. He taught him that money was the most important thing in the world. This reminds me of one of Herman Hesse’s teachers Plato. Plato believed that all things are connected to love including the love of oneself. I believe that Kamala was like Plato I believe she believed in love of oneself and worldly things before her God or Nirvana. I also believe that Kaamaswami believed in money before her got his God or Nirvana. “It has never been my experience that a Samara from the woods should come to me to learn for me. Never has a Samara with long hair an old tour in loincloth comes in the. Many young men come to me including Barhmins’ sons, but they come to me in fine clothes, and find shoes; there is sent in their hair and money in their purse. That is how these young men come to me, O Samara.” This was said by Kamala and this is why I believe that Kamalas…

I attended Head Start as a student. Three years after graduated from Head Start, my mom began working for them. She started out as a cleaning lady and after a few years moved up the chain to cook and then eventually a teacher. So, since I was about 7 years old I was volunteering. I loved being around the children, the teachers and just the setting in general. When I was old enough, I also began working at Head Start as a teacher’s aide. I later went to work for the University of Idaho Children’s Center, where I figured out that I wanted to work with children as a career.…

I was granted the opportunity to work with the children and teachers of Coal Pit Learning Center for community engagement week. I worked with the children throughout the week to provide relief to the exhausted teachers and be a person who can look over the children. I was gifted the opportunity to work with a variety of children of ages from 3-5. My first day was tiring, but full of excitement. The children were a mix of shy and excited as we walked into their classroom for the very first time. I thought to myself, as my 3 classmates and I were thrown into the chaos of a group of 3 and 4 year olds, what I should be doing to help. But there was no need for the teachers to explain to us what to do, the children immediately gave us jobs of playing with them or making us watch them race their cars around the room. The week turned out to be a wonderful learning experience for me and the people I worked with.…

Volunteering has been a passion of mine since I was young, and as I have grown up I have come to the realization that the opportunities I have enjoyed the most and felt that I made the biggest impact were activities where I helped children. One of my first major experiences volunteering with children was in the summer of 2013 when I volunteered with iCan Shine in their iCan Bike program. This program truly opened my eyes to what I was passionate about and made making a decision about what I wanted pursue as a career in the future much easier.…

Throughout all my hours working on my senior project which is volunteering at the Kids Unlimited after school program, I have achieved many duties that include being responsible for children. By doing that I had to show the kids how to be respectful, responsible and safe. I did many activities with the kindergarteners such as playing games, watching movies, coloring, helping with homework, and playing outside with them. The steps I took to plan this project of mine were to gain the skills and ability to be around little children.…

I fulfilled my volunteer hours by packaging red hats for babies and making hats for the NIQU babies at Methodist hospital. I fulfilled these hours at La Bien. During both experiences, making and packaging the hats was quit relaxing because I was able to get away from studying and homework for a little while. I packed about 50 red hats and I made five hats that included a ninja turtle, a crown, and a butterfly. The hats will help keep the baby warm, and the hats provide the babies with an article of clothing. The American red heart society donates the red hats to make awareness of heart disease, the most common birth defect in the country.…

I volunteered at Immaculate Conception school for the program called Project T.H.I.N.K. Immaculate Conception school is a charter school located in the middle of Downtown Los Angeles. The school teaches children from kindergarten through eighth grade. I have volunteered at so many different organizations that included working with food, working with animals, and even with books at the library. I have never volunteered with kids before that included growing relationships with them. I chose this site because professionally I want to be a Pediatric Nurse. I also felt that this is a great opportunity to finally gain experience with kids. I also chose this site because it is only 10 minutes away from the Doheny campus. I only need to take the bus by the school and I get dropped off right by the school. This volunteer…

Admittedly, kids and teens are harder to influence when it comes to volunteering with a charitable act, so teachers turn to bonus points, ect., rather than explaining to them the purpose and how it could really help out someone. A few years ago, my mom decided to take me with her to offer cinnamon rolls to the elderly at the nursing home. At first, the idea seemed atrocious to me. I thought, wow, I'm going to spend my free time doing this? After disputing with my mom about it for half an hour, she finally explained to me that I would really make a difference to every person's life that I meet there. Afterwards, I really felt good about myself and realized that the gift of giving is a reward itself.…
