The country is rich in diamonds and other minerals and Sierra Leone experienced substantial economic growth in the past years. But, the effects of Civil War continue to be perceived. There are different issues that is prevalent like the outbreak of Ebola Virus, Limited Access in safe drinking water, cross-border diamond trafficking, and illegal trade of black diamonds that used for funding in civil wars and other conflicts in different countries in Africa.

In 1896, Britain sets up a protectorate over Freetown and Sierra Leone declares independence from United Kingdom in 1961 led by its appointed chief minister Sir Milton Magai.
In 1967, the military coup deposes Siaka Stevens through a bloodless military coup within hours after taking oath of office and Stevens assumed again in power on the following year and he also became executive president in 1971 when the said country declared a republic. The New constitution declares Sierra Leone as a one-party state which the All People’s Congress was a sole legal party in 1978.
