Within thnovel Silas marner, the protagonist is greatly effected by the community of ravoloe. Silas Marners life changes as he becomes more involved with the community of ravoloe, developing friendship, joy and happiness . Silas begins spending time with friends and people of the community, Silas goes to church and becomes involved with the activities taken part by the community of ravoloe, and best of all, he adopts a young orphaned girl.
Becoming more involved with the community was a very ironic happening for Silas. On a cold dark night Silas was robbed of his most valued possessions, his money. It was on this night he made his first trip into the rainbow to seek help. “iv’e been robbed” cried Silas in the rainbow. He asks the men for help finding the mysterious robber. The men go out with Silas and help him search around. This is the firast sign of Silas becoming more involved witht the community of Ravoloe. For the weeks following, many people come to Silas’ cootage to ask him questions about the theft. Silas opens up to these people inviting them in and even sharing the amount of money he had stolen. At this point Silas begins to develop friendships with people that would visit him. Mr. Macey the parish clerk would stop in to see Silas and exchange a few words. Dolly Winthrop, the Wheelrights wife would always stop and talk to him and even bring baked goods. By having these friendly interactions, Silas was deeply effected. He felt more welcome in the community and his loneliness was replaced with the company of his neighbours.
The adoption of a young child by an old hermit would’ve shocked the whole town, but since Silas had become a part of the community, they believed that this may be good for Silas. Deep in the winter, a cold and windy night, Silas was at home and had a “fit” during the unconscious time elapsed, a young child had walked into the cottage.
