The year was 1919. The Chicago White Sox were on a winning streak. All White Sox fans were confident in their team’s talent and capability to beat their World Series competition, the Cincinnati Reds. Their performance was disappointing to their fans, coaches, and even a few oblivious White Sox players. Although many were surprised, gamblers and multiple White Sox team members were not. The players, who were nicknamed the Black Sox, had everything figured out. In 1919, a team known as the Black Sox changed the way baseball is supposed to be played, leading to an inauthentic win.…
Avoiding all the curve balls that were thrown at them, the ChMS Baseball team took the necessary steps to get to an advanced level. With 28 wins and 8 losses, they practiced everyday to become more and more talented. “My favorite part about this season was that everyone got along and worked hard together,” commented Lucas Jennings. The head coach of the team is Coach Ayers, and the assistant coach is Coach Green. These two coaches pushed their players to their limits to make them the best of the best. Most of the 8th grade players will be moving up next year to high school baseball. “Next season I am mainly looking forward to playing with older high school students,” said Carter Frederick. Most of the players have been playing for a long time…
Rugby union is based on the 'right to contest possession'. A team is not required to surrender possession when the ball carrier is tackled, in contrast to American football, where a team must surrender their possession when a player is tackled and no downs remain. Rugby union players must win possession in open play, unless the team in possession makes an infringement, scores, or the ball leaves the field of play.…
"The game of baseball has now become beyond question the leading feature of the outdoor sports of the United States...It is a game which is peculiarly suited to the American temperament and disposition:... in short, the pastime suits the people, and the people suit the pastime"(Charles Peverelly, 1866). Although baseball is still America's favorite pastime, the way it is played has changed greatly since it's founding in the 1800's. Baseball was originally created so there would be something the boys could do to keep busy during the summer months. Now, baseball has changed greatly because of technological and technique advancements, rule alterations, and the commercialization of the game.…

Baseball was invented in the late 1840’s. “Popularity was spread during the Civil War and baseball was played in Union Camps all over America” (Stewart 4). Baseball first gained popularity all over America, in about 1880 when people learned the full game and started playing it for the first time. Baseball has changed greatly over time in many positive ways because of changes in rules, popularity, and strategies.…
“If we prepared our kids academically as we prepare them for wining state championships, there is no telling where we would be now.” (Bissinger 134) Boobie Miles’ day in school consists first of a language arts class where the students are at least two years behind their peers in their skills. He is doing a research paper on the life of zebras. Then, he goes to Algebra I, a class he should have taken as a freshman. He is barely passing. After lunch, there is creative writing where he spends time playing with a purple plastic gargoyle-looking monster and writing a few words of a story. This is his favorite class, because the teacher doesn’t expect much from him. She sees football as all a kid like Boobie has going for him. He eats some candy and eventually leaves early for football practice. It’s not only going on at Permian, Dallas Carter goes onto win state championship but faces severe penalties the next year for their grade tampering because the principal changed one on the player’s grade to a passing grade so that he could play in the championship game. That shows how people were so consumed by the want to win that they couldn’t acknowledge that they were making mistakes and had their priorities mixed…

The fear of losing everything Craig Nasvik worked for, was the hardest part of his college experience. “It was the feeling of not being in charge,” Craig says, recalling back to his sophomore year when he blew out his right knee. The factor that led him to believe he could never play football again, and miss some of the most important years of his life. Craig attended the University of Minnesota Duluth on a full ride athletic scholarship. He was recruited out of the state of Wisconsin, where he was born and raised. It was the neighborhood that he grew up in, that gave him the competitive nature. Craig described his friends to the movie ‘Sandlot’. They were always outside, picking teams and playing different games.…

Social interaction is considered the building block of society itself. Social interaction is the dynamic actions and communications between individuals, or even an entire group. There are a total of five forms of social interaction, which are; exchange, competition, conflict, cooperation, and accommodation. All of these forms are needed when interacting with another or multiple other individuals. As the observations went on, it was interesting to get a first hand glance of the way people interact differently with the change or a group and even the environment. Glenn was a great example of this. Arguably one of the most popular juniors of the school, Glenn, who is a baseball and football player, had extremely distinct personalities and behaviors…
American football as we know it originated from rugby played in Britain in the mid-19th century. The person who Americans consider the “Father of American Football” is Walter Camp. Professional football can be traced back to 1982, when there was a $500 contract for the Allegheny Athletic Association and the Pittsburgh Athletic Club to play a game against each other. Originally football was primarily a sport of the Midwestern industrial towns in the United State. In 1902, the American Professional Football Association was formed and two years later the National Football League. The competition was fierce between the two leagues, which led the two leagues to merge. Football eventually became national. When the two leagues merged is when…
