King was raised in an activist family. His father was influenced by Marcus Gravy’s back to Africa movement in the 1920s. His mother was the daughter of one of Atlanta's most influential African American ministers. In School Martin always excelled finishing school with no problems and started Morehouse College. Next, he attended Crozer Theological Seminary, where he received a Bachelor of Divinity degree. While he was getting his doctorate at Boston University, he met and married Correta Scott. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1955.
Martin Luther King role in society has been his efforts in advancing the civil rights movement. He brought attention to a big issue that was incredibly controversial during his time.
