To identify the dyes present in the Gatorade, a test was performed with the spectrometer. The first step was to set-up the spectrometer and calibrate it using a sample of pure DI water. Following this a cuvette was partially filled with a sample of Gatorade and inserted into the spectrometer to be tested. The points of highest absorption were determined to indicate the presence of red and blue dyes.…

This project was to see if orange juice can benefit the body more than gatorade can. If orange juice has more electrolytes than gatorade, then orange juice can help the body stay more hydrated. Athletes care about getting enough electrolytes because the athletes need to stay hydrated when working out and playing sports. The independent variable is the orange juice, gatorade, and distilled water. The dependent variable is the electrolytes measured in milliamps. The results were that the gatorade had 0.01 milliamps more than the orange juice and the distilled water stayed at zero. The hypothesis was not supported because the hypothesis states that the orange juice has more electrolytes than the gatorade. If the experiment was repeated, the amount…

The concentration of sugars in two well-known sports drinks, Powerade and Gatorade, were determined by monitoring an enzyme-catalysed reaction sequence involving the appearance of NADPH. Sucrose and glucose concentrations were calculated from the concentration of NADPH formed by the reaction of glucose-6-phosphate and NADP+. Spectrophotometric absorbance readings were taken at 340nm, this is because NADPH absorbs strongly at this wavelength, whilst NADP+ does not (1015MSC, 2010). The concentration of glucose and sucrose in Powerade was found to be 0.43g/100mL and 7.36g/100mL, whereas the concentration of glucose and sucrose in Gatorade was found to be 0.94g/100mL and 7.09g/100mL respectively.…

These five ingredients cause rapid fluid absorption, rapid rehydration, provides carbohydrates to working muscles, and encourage you to drink more. These 4 objectives are what the Gatorade website states as the “keys to athletic ability.” The first ingredient and the most important is water (H2O). It is impossible to hydrate at all without the presence of water. Water is the key to all living things and the entire purpose of Gatorade is to get the water to the body.…
