Christianity is founded in Judaism and these two religions share part of the same Bible, the Old Testament, and believe that Jerusalem is a holy city (van Voorst, 2013). This Bible states that God is the Creator of the universe and all things, and that God is omniscient. Within the Bible is a code of morals, the Ten Commandments, by which both religions abide (van Voorst, 2013). Also in the Bible is the introduction of sin to humans through a fallen angel called Satan (van Voorst, 2013). Christians and Jews share
the belief that God is merciful and can atone sins. Whether in church or a synagogue, both religions rely on chanting, singing, and prayer as a form of worship (van Voorst, 2013). A stark contrast between Christianity and Judaism is the conception and life of Jesus Christ. While Christians believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, part of the Holy Trinity, Jews believe that Christ is but a prophet. Additionally, Judaism does not believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of humanity or that His death and resurrection attones sin (van Voorst, 2013). It may be easy to spot differences among religions, but when one truly examines a religion and its beliefs in depth, they discover how surprisingly similar all religions are. Whether they believe in God or another all powerful being, religion is simply a way to encourage humans to lead good lives.
