Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet
Romeo & Juliet
This teenage tragedy was written by the famous Shakespeare, being the third most popular of all his many plays. Romeo and Juliet is about two star cross’d lovers who are born into rival families that live in Verona. Many other movies, plays, and cartoons have been created about this story. A few things all of the movies have in common is that the characters that are suppose to die , die in the same order. Almost all plays are shot in Verona except one. Romeo had still been played by a “pretty boy” in all three versions to show sensitivity and youthful attractiveness. Juliet was flawlessly beautiful in all three versions, she was also very delicate and graceful. Mercutio was always outspoken and unfiltered in all movies ,

Lady Capulet doesn't really have a bond with her daughter, and also gives Juliet a cold hearted response when Juliet is pleading for her mother to help her avoid being married to Paris because, Lady Capulet wants to be seen as an obedient wife. However , the Nurse of the Capulets home has a motherly bond with Juliet, comforting her, helping her to see Romeo, and just being someone she can talk to in general. This is because, in all films Juliet has built trust with her nurse. In all films Tybalt is very sneaky and kniving, having a certain hate of his own for Romeo and is out to get revenge. Tybalt is actually the one to kill Mercutio in all films by “accident”. This is because, he wants to make Lord Capulet proud of him. Lady Montague is very rarely seen or heard of in this movie but still plays an important …show more content…
They also have very good acting crews, because both the play and movie was equally dramatic. Major comparisons that viewers will notice between the 1968 and 1969 that stand out the most would have to be, that both set of actors of the Montague family happened to be Caucasian, not very sure if that was intended but it's just a similarity you can notice. Another thing that was interestingly similar was that both movies were actually shot in Verona , a city in Spain. Whereas the 2014 version was shot in California but, it was based and/or to be in Verona instead. Both movies also had actually cut parts that Shakespeare wrote, out of the scenes completely , because they felt that it wasn't as important or it wouldn't make sense. Another thing the films both have in common is that the speech or dialogue is similar. Both films had used the exact dialogue Shakespeare had written except for the small modifications that were made. In all both versions of Romeo and Juliet were

All of the characters in the film have very different personality traits than in the play. The Setting has changed drastically from being in an entire city to being in two gardens. Also with all of the deletions, the story line has become more kid appropriate than adult. Even with all of the huge changes, the film is still good and legitimate.…

The text version is different because it tells you what is going to happen in each scene. It is read by one person (or if you’re in a class, multiple people will read it). It is written in Shakespeare’s language, but it is changed so it is easier to understand. It also has side notes or foot notes, so you can understand what they are saying. Usually what is written in the book is different then what is in the movie. In the book during the fight scene with Mercutio, Tybalt, and Romeo, Tybalt kills Mercutio with a sword and Romeo runs after Tybalt killing him in the street. Also in the balcony scene, Romeo climbs the wall to Juliet’s balcony and stands with Juliet on her balcony. There really wasn’t a wedding scene in the book. During the death scene, Romeo fights Paris and says his goodbyes to Juliet and kills himself, and then she in return kills herself. The movies leave stuff out that the book has.…

The two main film interpretations of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" are Zeffirelli's, made in 1968, and Luhrmann's, made in 1997. Although they use the same original script written by Shakespeare, these two films are very different. Zeffirelli's is set in the 16th century, at the time when the screenplay would have first been written whereas Luhrmann has set his film in modern time but still using the Shakespearian language. The most popular and well-known scene of "Romeo and Juliet" is the balcony scene where Romeo and Juliet first declare their love for each other.…

One detailed part that both movies portrayed conveniently and truthfully are the characters of the original play. In the original play of The tragedy of Romeo & Juliet, Tybalt, (Juliet's cousin), is this violently aggressive jealous man with a hot-tempered attitude, which causes him to amuse certain events at the annoyance of his relatives. This can be seen at the feast, as Tybalt automatically amuses Romeo has come to dispute the party based on him being a Montague. “This, by his voice, should be a Montague...What! Dares the slave come hither covered with an antic face, To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honor of my kin, To strike him dead I hold it not a sin,” (Act 1, Scene 5, Lines 53-58 ). This scene shows that Tybalt will take any chance he has to kill a Montague, as long as it's not a sin; thus also showing that he has such a strong sense of honor towards his family. Seeing how Tybalt is described in the original play, both directors made sure that Tybalt’s performance would be as similar to how he’s depicted in the play, to establish Tybalt as the main antagonist in their films. In Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, Tybalt overreacts in an almost menacing vengeful way when he hears Romeo, as he begins to bang his chest and threaten him with death for the sake of his family. In Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt reacted similarly to when he saw Romeo dance with Juliet at the feast, as he furiously walked afterwards towards Lord Capulet with rage and envy, telling him that he would not tolerate Romeo. Above all, both movies depicted this character truthfully and convelling as the main villain of Romeo & Juliet, by bringing the play’s details to life; thus capturing a small, but crucial part of Romeo & Juliet’s whole essence. However, while both movies were able to capture the essence of the original play’s characters,…

In the movie when Romeo heads to the monument he already had the poison. In the play he goes to the Apothecary and buys the poison. Another thing that is different is the letter. In the movie Friar John ha the letter and has his back turned when they ride past him. In the play John is in the house where a sickness is when Romeo and Balthasar ride past him. A third thing that is different is in the play Paris goes to the monument a little before Romeo. In the movie, it is only Romeo that went to the monument. The fourth thing is related to the third difference. In the play, after Paris sees Romeo they fight. When they are fighting Romeo kill Paris. Romeo then says his goodbyes to Juliet. In conclusion, Act V in the play is way different then the Act V in the…

Without Lord Capulet existing in the story, Tybalt would have never killed Romeo with no regrets. “This, by his voice should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy. What! Dares the slave come hither. Covered with an aritic face, to fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honor of my kin, To strike him dead I hold it not a sin.” Said Tybalt. If Capulet didn st in the story, then Tybalt, the aggressive Capulet wouldn’t have asked anyone for permission to kill Romeo when he saw him at the party. Instead, he told Capulet that a Montague was at the party, and that he was going to kill Romeo, but Capulet told him “Content thee, gentle coz, let him alone. ‘ A bears him like a portly gentleman, and, to say truth, Verona brags of him to be a virtuous and well goverened youth.’ “ If Lord Capulet didn’t exist, he wouldn’t be there to scold Tybalt. Also, Tybalt would go ahead and kill Romeo before Juliet ever met him, which would make the story a lot different.…

From the beginning of the play it becomes obvious that Juliet Capulet is being pushed into the idea of marriage by her mother, Lady Capulet. Lady Capulet is a minor character who first enters the play by demanding to speak to her daughter. She explains to Juliet that a handsome man named Paris would like to be her husband, and makes it clear that his wealth will bring Juliet an easy lifestyle. Her speech is unselfish, and shows that she does care for her daughter. Her round character exhibits her impatience and her inability to maintain a relationship with her daughter. This is proven when Juliet’s mother is left in the dark about her secrets, and the Nurse is confided in. The Nurse acts as a foil to Lady Capulet because of her nurturing nature. In the time period, the rich are portrayed as proper and superior, and an appropriate lady must remain obedient to her husband. So when Capulet threatens to throw Juliet into the streets it is only natural that Lady Capulet supports his decision. The play conveys Lady Capulet as rude and self-serving, but also as a caring mother. By being an opulent noblewoman in the late 1500’s she comes across as snobby which can be overlooked due to the time period.…

A major similarity between the movie and play occurs in mood. An example of this is the marriage scene. In the marriage scene of the play, Romeo and Juliet act very serious. The reader can tell this by the way the two speak. Romeo says that the Holy Words the Friar speaks can make something without an equal which is a very intelligent thing to say. Similarly in the movie Romeo and Juliet both act serious. This is shown through there clothes, faces, and by the way they act. Romeo wears a suit, and Juliet wears a beautiful dress. Also you can tell by there faces that they look determined to get married and they both act very professional their not jumping around like 5 years olds their acting how people should be when they are getting married.…

Allowing Romeo to stay at the party was Capulets fault. Capulet proclaimed, “Content thee, gentle coz, let him alone” (I.v.64). This shows Capulet telling Tybalt to ignore Romeo. Even though Tybalt despised the idea of letting Romeo stay, he had to listen to his uncle. Capulet declared, “He shall be endured. What goodman boy! I say he shall” (I.v.75-76). This shoes that Capulet is responsible for Romeo seeing Juliet in the first place. If Capulet let Tybalt throw him out of the party, Romeo would have never even seen Juliet. This is important because if Romeo never talked to her, she probably wouldn’t have asked the nurse for his name, and more importantly, never have fallen in love with him.…
