Lord of the flies was written by William Golding in 1954. After his participation in World War II he began teaching and writing. Lord of the flies is a simple adventure story of schoolboys on an unhabitated island after their airplane crashed. The children make a set of rules to follow, but eventually the rules are broken. The children are then divided into two different tribes. Among the two tribes there’s a Christ-figure and a Satan-figure. In Ralph’s tribe, Simon is the Christ-figure. In Jack’s tribe, Roger is considered the Satan-figure.

Roger did not care about the littluns. He would throw rocks at them and walk all over their sand castles. Roger did not have mercy for the rest of the kids. “High overhead, Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever… The rock struck Piggy” (Golding 180). Roger had no mercy when he killed Piggy with the rock. “The hangman’s horror clung round him… That’s not the way said Roger… Roger edged past the chief, only just avoiding pushing him with his shoulder. The yelling ceased, and Samneric lay looking up in quiet terror. Roger advanced upon them as one wielding a nameless authority” (Golding 182).
