MOBILE PHONES
The purpose of this report is to help Smith Courier Service, Inc., select a mobile phone that provides the requisite functions to accommodate its business needs. In researching mobile phones it is best to select a service provider first, such as Verizon or T-Mobile because mobile phone functions vary from service provider to service provider. For example, Motorola has several versions of the popular RAZR:
RAZR (original)
RAZR V3 (T-Mobile/Cingular)
Mobile RAZR V3c (Verizon)
RAZR Magenta (T-Mobile) [2; 3].
Each model has different features, but not all features can be used depending on the service provider’s capabilities.
The Mobile RAZR V3c (Verizon), for example, has different functions than the RAZR V3 made for T-Mobile. Namely, the features on the RAZRV3c are more robust than those of the RAZR V3, but the RAZR V3c’s functions may not be available for use with T-Mobile service. However, even if models are the same, their functions might differ, depending on which service provider you choose. So, before buying a mobile phone, it’s wise to select the service provider first and then the phone.
Options for Mobile Phones
Two phones made available by T-Mobile were chosen for this comparison: (1) the V3 and (2) the T-809. They were chosen because these two phones represent the latest technologies available with T-Mobile service. In addition, these phones are very similar both in style and function, making them good candidates for comparison. The T-809 has a MP3 player, while the RAZR V3 does not, but for this comparison, that is not a discriminating feature. Instead, the comparison focuses on those features useful to businessmen and women [3; 4]
T-Mobile offers the following features for both phones: (1) Voice mail, (2) caller ID, (3) conference calling, (4) call forwarding, (5) call waiting, (6) call hold, (7) built-in paging, and (8) access to 411 [2]. Consequently, these features will not be compared.
