Simulated Violence In Video Games
Not many know that over half of the top fifty video games have violence involved. Imagine what it would be like if video games were real-life. How terrible would that make the world? Simulated violence in video games has an extremely negative impact on gamers. Games with simulated violence should not be played because they have dangerous health effects, causes aggression, and leads to inappropriate behavior. Simulated violence is common in video games making it easy to make a connection when people are watching the violence happen on screen for multiple hours at a time. Studies show that people who commit crimes, such as shootings, play violent video games and acted as if they were in a digital fantasy (Carey). Video games lead already violent people to go on a rampage, or at least fuel the urge too (Kain). Humans learn by what they see around them when they hear and see the aggression on the screen when they play video games the begin to feel aggressive (Kiem). The game's release correlates to the shooting in Washington DC. The same people who opened fire at Columbine High School and the movie theater in Aurora Colorado played violent video games. The crime rate in the US decreased as the video game violence decreased (Dashevsky). The majority of people who commit crimes are involved in some type of game with simulated violence. Some people may argue that video games are so addicting that it keeps crime off the streets, but since the violence in video games has gone down, the crime rate in the United States has also gone down. This is why it is important to take into consideration the ratings on video games. There are many reasons why simulated violence is negative, like the negative effect it has on health, the massive amounts of aggression it causes, and it eventually leads to inappropriate
