The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants The book I chose to read is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The author of this book is Ann Brashares. This book was published in the year 2001. Ann Brashares has four other sisterhood books, five including The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. This book is a New York Times best seller. It was even made into a movie. The main characters in this book are Carmen Lowell, Bridget Vreeland, Tibby Tomko-Rollins, and Lena Karigalis. These four girls play the role of the protagonist. All the girls are different from each other but that’s what completes them. They are all unique. There really isn’t an antagonist in my opinion. The setting of the book takes place mostly in Washington D.C. This story consists of three key events. The event that starts off The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is when all the girls are at Carmen’s house. They all try on a pair of jeans that end up fitting all of them, even though all the girls have different body types. Each week the girls would send the jeans to each other, while they were on their summer vacations. Lena went to Greece, Carmen went to South Carolina, Bridget went to Mexico, and Tibby stayed home in Maryland. Since they sent the pants back and forth to a different girl every week that’s why it’s called “the traveling pants.” While on vacation all the girls meet new people and become friends. At the end they all get back together and share their summer experiences. The theme of the book is showing how important friendship is. The girls all face challenges and problems on their summer vacations; they gain a deeper understanding on the importance of friendship and how much they rely on it in every aspect of their life. You may change, but your friends are always going to be there for you. What I learned was that when you are struggling through a problem you can always count on your friends to be there to help you out or even cheer you up. In my opinion
