Situational Leadership Theory
The greatest leaders are nothing without competent followers. The military depends heavily on leadership-followership dynamics. The very nature of the military chain-of-command means that virtually everyone in the chain must execute both leadership and followership capabilities to ensure mission success. Unique to the armed services, we agreed to support and defend the US Constitution. I believe the most valuable lesson principle to maximize leadership and followership was the Profession of Arms. Those leaders and followers who demonstrate a high level of commitment towards the Profession of Arms exhibit heighten levels of professionalism that enhance mission effectiveness. The optimal follower will be highly competent, inclined, and committed; driving a delegating leadership style. I have trained a highly skilled workforce that continually demonstrates varying degrees of inclination. I believe the focus on commitment through the Profession of Arms will make the largest impact on my work center. I will implement this by leveraging our geographical approximation to historical military sites. I will spawn the curiosity of military history by visiting local American military cemeteries and famous battlegrounds like Bastogne. I will delegate monthly briefs to be executed by a rotating group of airmen to present famous faces in Air Force history. Recognizing the sacrifices of the service members that donned the uniform before us, will improve my work centers commitment to the Profession of Arms. Finally, I will routinely seek out profession development seminar opportunities for myself and my airmen as part of a P2 plan. This will increase competency to achieve the most effective leader-follower leadership style and improve my ability to be a transformational

    In this we have learned that complacency has no part in the Army and that the only thing to do is strive to excel in all ways as a group for the benefit of the people we serve which by definition makes us a profession.     In order for the Army to maintain being a profession, we must instill what it means to be a professional to the incoming Soldiers. Our leaders at all levels need to promote training and mentor our younger generation of Soldiers to become experts in their jobs. The military’s rich history has afforded scholars the opportunity to dissect how leadership is developed in the military.
