Human Resources Sergeants are often disregarded as part of a Profession of Arms. The Human Resources field has been part of the Army for many years, which proves the importance in this profession. In this writing I will talk about the meaning of a profession, the balancing roles of the profession’s leaders, the Army professional culture and the Human Resources Sergeant’s role in the Army profession. In order to understand why HR Sergeants are important in the Profession of Arms and how without Human Resources the Army profession would not run as effective as it does today, you need to understand what a profession is.

The Army’s way of balancing leader’s roles is by having a rank structure. The rank structure denotes the leader’s role and level of authority and responsibility. With that role comes expert knowledge and work. Leader development is crucial in maintaining a balanced profession. This allows the Army to conduct business in a more organized way. When the leader’s roles are not balanced it makes it difficult for the Army to conduct operations productively. Equally important, such unbalance can affect the trust of our American people as much as the Army’s culture.
The seven Army Values define the Army’s professional culture. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor Integrity, and Personal Courage. These values form the behavior of our professionals which is greatly admired and followed. Human Resources Sergeant are in frequent exposure with people. HR's provide customer service and as such it often falls on HR Sergeants to display the Army professional culture. Additionally, cultural changes within the Army evolve with new millenniums and it is important to realize the effects of this professional culture change so that leaders can adapt
