Skim-boarding is so unique to me because I see the way the waves are forming, and I am able to anticipate what’s about to happen and can relate it to my life situations. In skim-boarding, you can take the easy path or the hard path. The easy path is riding along the beach after the wave break and the hard path would be riding into the wave as it is about to break. What sets the two paths apart is the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day. The easy path may be fun and gratifying, however, was I really testing my skills? There’s no obstacle or challenge in taking the easy path. At the end of the day, I need to feel that I pushed myself. As an experienced Skim-boarder, I have a particular responsibility to protect myself from getting hurt and making sure I don’t hurt others on the beach. I can see this being useful to me in my life, where I'm asked to work with others who are not as experienced or alert to situations as I am and have to work together as a team nonetheless. The waves require that I act with patience and compromise. I have learned values that are formed and mastered from skim-boarding that I have applied to my encounters with others, which is why I realize that skim-boarding is so
