Sleep Disorders: Documentary Analysis
I thought the whole documentary was very interesting. I think it applied to many different sleep disorders and provided solutions that could help improve someone’s sleep. I know many people who lack a good night’s rest and often feel drowsy during the day. I have a friend who works until bar close and she is often up until 5 am doing things like laundry and cleaning that I would be doing during the day because she can’t sleep.
The two that I can relate to are the naps, and the wine/coffee consumption before bed time. I usually take naps throughout my busy days if I have a headache. Usually on my days I have class, I come home with a pounding headache. I often take a half hour nap to see if it will reduce my headache. The documentary recommended

In this attention grabbing, brillaintly plotted, and elegantly written book, D. T. Max shows us what happens when the insomnia doesn’t end, no matter how aggressive the medical intervention or sedative prescription is. He tells the story of an Italian family that for at least 200 years has been plagued by an extremely rare hereditary disorder that destroys the brain’s capacity to fall asleep. Ultimately, if you stop sleeping altogether, you will probably end up suffering; effects include losing all bodily control and finally a horrible death. Although science may not yet understand the purpose of slumber, fatal familial insomnia, the author suggests, it could be “the worst disease in the world.”…

Before watching the documentary I didn’t know much about the Koch brothers and how much a couple individuals can impact the rest of us within the United States in such a tremendous way. They are rich people that want to make sure that they are as happy as possible. Not worrying or caring about any other individual, but themselves and their own beliefs. So the Koch brothers will do anything and everything that they are capable of doing to make sure that what they want is the outcome of what we get. This movie gave me a different perspective on those with money and how they’re willing to affect everyone else for their own personal beliefs and profit. The documentary had many strengths from how they adjusted from idea to idea showing all the impacts of each belief the Koch brothers have and all the different impact their beliefs have on us due to the amount of money they process. The film, overall, made me pretty angry that someone with as much money as the Koch brothers have, would care so little about the rest of the population. Polluting other people’s neighborhoods, killing other people’s families, ruining cities, and numerous other aspects of life that have been destroyed by the Koch brothers are all characteristic that affect a tremendous amount of people. It proved to me how false someone could be about what is being said and exactly what they mean by what they are saying. After watching this documentary it forced me to feel like I need to get more involved and speak my beliefs more so the near future is not ran by bias opinions towards a group of people especially the working…

I enjoyed watching all three segments of the 1950s documentary. So much more happened in the 50s besides what you see in Grease or Happy Days. There were fast cars and poodle skirts, but there was also war and polio. I did not know much about the disease polio. I had heard of the iron lung, but I did not know it was used to treat polio. I liked the music that went along with the video. I think it is fun to listen to how music changes over time, especially when comparing it by decade.…

Sleep is a big part of one’s psychological health. Without sleep, many of our essential cognitive functions would begin to deteriorate. Factors like mood, comprehension, and many more are affected by the lack of sleep in an exceptionally large way. Due to the fact that in humans, we are exceptionally vulnerable mentally as we are physically. Many of us begin to put our well-being in harm’s way by receiving a reduced amount of sleep when compared to the average needed. As illustrated in, Sleep Thieves, Stanley Coren presents an experiment conducted in 1964 by a seventeen year old named Randy Gardner who became the world’s record holder for the longest amount of time spent awake without stimulants. The book, Sleep Thieves, begins to explain…

I really enjoyed this documentary because it was like no other I have ever watched. This documentary highlights the struggles of soldiers returning to civil society after going to war. We were able to see the hardships of a soldier trying to return to his old life even though he was permanently scarred, both physically and mentally. As we discussed in class, we are able to see that not only are the soldiers affected by the war, but also their family and those closes to them. In the film, the wife is the one who is directly affected by her husband going off to war. I admire her strength as she committed herself to the physical well-being of her husband, but that was taking a toll on her as well. She seemed numb to her husband’s mistreatment and I can only imagine how emotionally overwhelmed she felt. I feel that the drugs the soldier had to take due to his injury added to his mental instability. From personal experience, I do know the effects of strong pain medication. They themselves have their own side effects. Now add years of trauma and pain from the battlefield. This is why the soldier’s behavior did not surprise me. Any person would react in the same way. It is sad to know that many of these young men who have returned from the war are not being helped in the ways that they should be and I wish there were more programs focused on helping our country’s…

It is so well put together and it makes people feel as if they are the ones experiencing the Holocaust. I had tears running down my face a few times. (Okay more than a few) It is a moving experience and it is not set up like a teacher teaching it in school. The people that lived through this event came and talked and the people that are not a part of it but spoke about it dug deeper than just a huge amount of Jews dying. I especially liked this talk because all thought he Holocaust is a terrible time in history it talked about good things. This lady risked her life so that the children in the camp could have an outlet and stay alive. And the children make things that will last forever even though they do not. That is something that students do not get taught in school, but that I think has a bigger impact than a lot Jews…
