Introduction
Background of the Study
Smoking is a habit but curable. Considered as curable but few people try to control themselves from doing it. People, students and even professionals are often tempted to smoke. For some, smoking relieves tension; superiority among others, curiosity, satisfaction, and a form of self deception but the adverse consequences of smoking is one’s own health. Smoking exist everywhere even in school campuses that conclude to be huge problem. According to Toni Christopherson, a problem that everyone tries to eradicate but fails to act on it because they themselves cannot practice what they preach. It is obvious that smoking is one of the major problems of every college student. Many college students are fond of smoking, it driven oneself to heavenly feeling. But it is not an excuse to be free from any complication someday. Many people tried self discipline to control the temptation of smoking. Others would try re- lifestyle and refocus their attention just to stop themselves from doing it. But worse, others don’t know what to do and they simply give in. Others on the other hand, would smoke not because they don’t know what to do but simply because they won’t get belong to the “in group’.

Introduction
Alcohol is described in many medical journals and books as a psychiatric diagnosis describing the use of alcoholic beverages despite negative consequences. This means that an individual has no self control and does not care for the consequences that will arise if he or she continues to take massive intakes of alcohol without any regard for the safety and well being of his own and his fellow men.
Alcohol amongst teenagers is a growing concern for many parents and governments all over the world. The consequences of teenage alcohol abuse has been widely reported and known yet very little has been done to stop alcohol abuse in the United States and other nations where ill-legal liquor houses and unlicensed production of alcohol is wide spread.
Why Teenagers turn to alcohol:
Teens use alcohol and other drugs for many reasons. They may do it because they want to fit in with friends or certain groups particularly if a teenager posses a shy nature or is not confident in socializing with people or wants to be amongst the popular age group at school or in the neighborhood. This pattern is quite common in rough neighborhoods were ‘macho’ or ‘tough-guy’ images are seen as the popular “in” thing amongst teenagers and those who view them in very high regards and try to copy their behavior and social patterns.
Teenagers may also take a drug or drink alcohol because they like the way it makes them feel. This is particularly true for those teenagers who are suffering from depression due to a variety of factors: financial burden at home or if they are working then stress from work, parental problems, parental abuse particularly if it is sexual in nature or too physical, the need of attention from working parents who have no time for their children due to the financial difficulties.
Alcohol is the most frequently used drug by teenagers in the United States. About half of junior high and senior high school students drink alcohol on a monthly basis and 14% of teens have been intoxicated at least once in the past year. Nearly 8% of teens who drink say they drink at least five or more alcoholic drinks in a row (binge drink). This pattern is common on the Eastern coast of the United States and in those states which are close to the Mexican border. This is because in such areas there are illegal alcohol producers who hire sales people who sell alcohol to teenagers which is illegal in many states particularly if a teenager is below 18 years of age. Teenagers are introduced to alcohol in the form of root beer which is a popular drink and many parents do not tend to consider how such a common household drink can lead to one of their children becoming alcohol abusers and in turn ruining not only his or her life about also of their loved ones.
Effects of Alcohol abuse on the body:
There are a large number of dangerous effects which alcohol abuse has on a teenager’s body. These effects are physical, psychological and mental in nature. They can vary between gaining large amounts to weight to becoming anorexic when it comes to eating, attaining an aggressive nature and prone to violence at the slightest provocation or unexplained acts of violence, going into deep depression or worse committing suicide or mortally wounding another living thing in a state of drunkenness.
Alcohol consumption in large or even moderate quantities is known to cause blurred vision, coordination issues, dizziness, and talkativeness in a young body. It is the result of a large number of studies that a younger body tends to have its will power and confidence erode at a much faster rate as compared to an adult body which many experts estimate to be of 22 years before a person can consume large amounts of alcohol and still have the urge to restrain from fatal acts.
Teenagers who consume great doses of alcohol incorporate abusive symptoms such as slurred speech, insomnia, nausea, and vomiting. Even at minimal amounts, alcohol can greatly impair the judgment and coordination that the drinker requires to drive a car. Each year, almost 2000 people under the age of 21 years died in car crashes in which underage drinking is involved. Alcohol is involved in nearly half of all violent deaths involving teens.
The long term effects of consuming large amounts of alcohol can lead to permanent damage to vital organs such as the brain and liver. This damage can be in the form of cancer or failure of the organ to function properly which even an organ transplant fails to heal because the alcohol in the blood level is high and can also damage the new transplanted organ. If a teenager particularly one below 19 years of age consumes excessive alcohol, unconsciousness and even death may occur due to alcohol poisoning which can cause panic amongst the public he is in and thus the damage spreads in the form of mental torture. It is also possible for a teenager to suffocate on his or her own vomit.
The mental effects of alcohol abuse are also very concerning particularly if the abuser is in high school or in the early years of college life because these youngsters are those who have many years of their life to live and yet they destroy it due to alcohol abuse. Alcohol has been identified as a factor in 40% of all academic problems and 28% of all drop outs and More than 7% of college freshmen dropout of school for alcohol-related reasons.
Alcohol abuse in such educational institutions has been shown to be higher as compared to adult working places in some parts of the United States which has caused states such as Oregon, Mississippi and others to toughen laws concerning alcohol sale, distribution, use, establishing an alcohol bar or acquiring a license which allows the sale of alcohol in restaurants or in fast food areas and other places which are frequented by teenagers.
Alcohol consumption decreases a teenager 's ability to pay attention when it comes to his or her studies. Teenagers have been found to fall asleep in classrooms, libraries, in science laboratories and even when visiting their educational cancellers. This is because alcohol is widely known to dull the functioning of the brain and cause dizziness according to Dr. Roxanne Dryden-Edwards who states in her article that more than three times the number of eighth-grade girls who drink heavily said they have attempted suicide compared to girls in that grade who do not drink. Alcohol can actually cause anxiety and depression as it uses up the brain 's stores of the natural chemicals it draws on to reduce anxiety and lift mood. Youngsters in high school and colleges tend to turn to alcohol to drown their frustrations by consuming alcohol or tend to think that by consuming alcohol they can forget about their worries. This is a false pretense because once the teenager recovers from his alcohol hangover he or she wants to forget about the troubles that exist in life and thus turn to alcohol again. This causes students to lose ground in their studies, drop of out educational institutions, earn weak grades and some are even expelled because their grades are not up to standards of the educational institution.
It is not just in education that alcohol causes damage if the abuser is a teenager. Researchers and many studies estimate that as many as many as 360,000 undergraduates will die from alcohol-related causes while in school. Statistics from law enforcement agencies and organizations that treat teenagers about alcohol abuse reveal that alcohol or other drugs were a factor with 75% of the men and 55% of tile women in reported acquaintance rapes on college campuses a figure released by 2000. The statistics just don 't stop here alcohol is related to 70% of violent behavior on college campuses. Many radical and student political wings often use alcohol if they are to perform violent acts because a person who is drunk has been shown to unleash anger at the slightest provocation and that is the reason why many students protests which turn violent have some protestors who are drunk and these are the ones that cause rowdy behavior and cause damage to public property or to the educational institute where he or she is studying.
Conclusion:
Alcohol abuse is a threat which has been made aware by many government and non-government organizations yet it still continues to be a leading cause of pain and destruction for many innocent lives. Though there are alcohol rehabilitation centers in many parts of the United States some which provide free treatment to those who have poor financial backing yet more needs to be done from all corner of society from the parents to those who are involved in spreading the risks of alcohol abuse to the politicians who make promises to rub out alcohol related crimes and to the industrialists who bear the responsibility of producing a drink that has known to cause more harm than good to the society in which human beings live in.

As a group we are basing this project on college students from the age 18 and up. We are researching college students smoking cigarettes, which cause major health problems. Many college students smoke whether its cigarettes or weed. Smoking can cause many health problems among users. For years a lot of college students die from smoking cigarettes. Also there are people who die every day because of lung cancer from smoking cigarettes. We chose to target this population because during many students college experience, they are unaware of the many different influences out there. A person can enter college being a nonsmoker but with the influence of their peer. This can cause that person to start smoking. Some people may do it just because they may think it is cool, but in actuality they are risking their life from a single cigarette. Based upon our research, thirty – three percent of college students use tobacco products such as cigarettes, black and mild cigars, and chewing tobacco. This shows how greatly tobacco influences college students to become avid users. The message that our PSA will convey is how much cigarettes affects a person’s health. We want to shows how cigarettes have been a major killer to the human race. We will create and perform an interview with a person who has a history of smoking. Hopefully this will show and get the message across to our audience that cigarettes are very dangerous. We want our presentation to also encourage and explain the importance of a person health. Our group presentation is well developed for people who are unaware of the results of tobacco…
