Caso Snapple

¿Recuerdas los años 80, Philip?
- Obvio.

No obstante, Snapple no prosperó.

The Coca-Cola company has been in business since its inventor began selling it in drug stores in 1886 (The Coca-Cola Company, 2009). Pepsi-Cola was invented a short time later in 1898, but at the time it was called “Brad’s drink.” It was later renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1902 (Butler, 2006). Since those early days when the sodas were invented, Coca-Cola and Pepsi have been in competition with each other for the domination of the world’s soda market. Over the course of more than a century, sales have continued to rise for both companies, and they both consistently earn a profit. Both companies have expanded into new product markets in more recent years. They have chosen to invest their earnings in new ventures like bottled water, snack foods, and iced tea, and they each strive to continue increasing their profits in many ways. In order to maintain this continued growth in the coming years, these companies are both in need of investors who will fund their efforts.…

Since 1861, when the brothers Richard and George took over Cadbury, the British confectionary company has continually expanded and developed, now standing as the second largest confectionary company in the world, shortly followed by Mars. The company now operates in over 60 countries worldwide and has a multi-billion pound turnover each year (Factbox: British confectioner Cadbury, 2010), demonstrating its success. There are many factors that have contributed to the success of Cadbury over the years. The three decisive factors, however, will be focussed on and explored in this essay; Quaker values, sales and marketing and product innovation. The aim of the essay is to explore the relative importance of all three of these factors and discuss, from different viewpoints, how critical they were in making Cadbury the successful company that it is today. Throughout this essay, I will argue that it is a combination of the factors stated that have led Cadbury to success. No single factor stated has been enough to be fully influential in the growth of the company and I will contend that all factors considered simultaneously in order to fully explain how and why Cadburys has accomplished so much over the years. I also aim to consider other factors which may have been more significant in Cadbury’s growth. The essay will be structured in a way that discusses the contribution of firstly Quaker values, secondly product innovation and finally sales and marketing, providing critical evaluation throughout. I will also discuss the link between the three factors and allow scope for other factors that may also have contributed to Cadbury’s success story.…

Andrew Barker, brand manager for Snapple beverages at the Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc., has been charged with the task of assessing a new market opportunity for the brand. The decision has been made by senior company management to explore a new energy beverage as a part of a corporate business strategy to focus on opportunities in high-growth and high-margin beverage businesses. Barker must determine whether or not a profitable market opportunity exists for a new energy beverage brand to be produced, marketed, and distributed by the company. He must then make a recommendation as to whether or not the company should introduce a new branded product into the energy beverage market. Any proposal to enter into the beverage market requires a marketing strategy for a branded energy drink, including a first-year sales and profit projection. It is important to note that Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. is the only major domestic nonalcoholic beverage company in the United States without a significant branded energy drink of its own. In order to come to an educated conclusion, Barker must assess Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc.’s current situational analysis, analyze the energy beverage market in the United States, and consider the market opportunities available to the company. The problem facing the Snapple brand is how to maintain its competitive position given an environmental threat (energy beverages). They must determine whether or not it is strategically effective to enter the energy beverage market, while at the same time preserving profitability and its customer base.…

In 1993 President William Clinton signed into law a policy that effectively bans gay, lesbian, and bisexual service in the military. This policy, Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT), gave the armed forces the right to discharge a soldier based on their sexual preferences. There are two main parts to the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. In the Don’t Ask section of the policy, a commander is not allowed to ask, and service members are not required to disclose their sexual orientation. The other part, Don’t Tell, claims a basis for discharge exists if "the member has said that he or she is a homosexual or bisexual, or made some other statement that indicates a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts." This act is seen as unconstitutional by many Americans and is currently hurting our military when we need it the most.…

Snapples drinks are divided up into the following: Diet, Regular, Tea, Juice drink, and Additional flavors. Snapple’s equity comes from it’s “quirky, everyman vibe” and it’s “differentiation and new taste experiences”. The drink is viewed as somewhat of a luxury good, including natural ingredients, and claiming it’s “the best stuff on earth”. Not being associated with big corporations is good for Snapple’s brand and after its sale to Cadbury, Snapple proved to have brand equity again. Snapple is a fresher and healthier choice as compared to sodas and energy drinks. The product variety is large as each category of Snapple has numerous flavors and sweetness…

In the first case study- The cola war, the authors spend pages to state the competition history of the soft drink business, especially the cola business in America. However, I am not going to discuss the strategy change of each company, nor am I going to analyze the ranking change of each company. I find at some point of the development of soft drink companies, they violate the ethical issue in marketing- Market audience. Those companies target on the vulnerable – the children. When the definition of caffeine is brought on the table, only coke that contains caffeine can be called cola, and this is mandated by the Food and Drug Administration. Parents don’t want their children to have caffeine and be stimulated, so at this point the soft drink company Seven-up caught the opportunity and launched the non-caffeine drinks or even the “no artificial color” drinks. However I found this marketing strategy has some ethical issues, even customers don’t straggle with the definition of “no artificial color”, which seems impossible. As we know the ingredient of the coke, or the soft drinks is phosphoric acid, which can dissolve a nail in four…

As described in the case study, Snapple flourished throughout 1972 and 1993 due to various reasons. Firstly, as the owners of Snapple realized that the popularity of no preservative fruit juices was increasing, they ceased the opportunity and decided to make a business out of it. As they were the first ones in this business, they got a chance to charge high prices and experiment products.…
