My eyes look up and see my three siblings attempting to make it up. We discover that there is a layer of ice on top of the snow which makes it nearly impossible for a five year old to climb. I watch as my brother Alex digs and makes a path for me to get up. As soon as I am up on the top of the sledding hill, I see Maddy and Lindsay without their sleds, on their stomachs sliding down the mountain. We are penguins, gliding as if we are on an iceberg. In this moment we are fearless, carefree, courageous. We go on for hours, entertaining ourselves. I feel an indescribable togetherness. The first time I experience what being apart of a family feels like. Soon enough, our toes feel frozen and we decide to head back to the house. Mom and Dad make hot chocolate and we all settle in on the couch and watch movies.
Later, we make and decorate sugar cookies and spend the rest of the day together with my grandparents. The next day, we get up early and pack up to return home. I had such enjoyable time and always make a million memories when we go to Vermont. This particular trip showed me what family is.
