ENC 1102 Final Essay
In a typical college community, there are a variety of personalities among us. Some extroverts, others introverts, and then there are those who are somewhere in the middle. At some point in our lives, we have all either had a personal encounter with shyness or at least witnessed someone who was socially awkward. My cousin who I practically grew up with was diagnosed with social anxiety at the age of sixteen. At the time she did not read much into it, since she was always a very shy person and liked to keep to herself. This definitely supports my main point as to why most teens choose to communicate through social media. I was able to use that concept in the beginning of my paper.

"Socialization of Social Anxiety in Adolescent Crowds", is a scholarly Journal article. The information provided in this article has shed light on my research on social anxiety. It discusses the different dynamics of the disorder and what can be the major contributors. In the first paragraph Zalk talks about the study and how social anxiety is tested in different groups of teens such as the punks and Goths. I can use this to argue social anxiety might be more common in certain clicks when compared to others. Zalk hypothesized in paragraph five that when crowds such as punks dress very bold and unusual it is a way of avoiding social encounters. I like the angle of this hypothesis; I could use this to elaborate on teens that purposely avoid social situations like some I surveyed.
