Social Loafing
A. Social Loafing, one of the concepts from the topic Social Psychology. According to Cherry (2016), Social Loafing describes the tendency of individuals to put forth less efforts when they are part of a group. This is because each member thinks that everyone is working towards achieving the same goal, so they do not have to put in as much work effort. They may also think that other members assume that someone else will have to take care of their work if they do not do it by having that reluctant mind.

B. To be a Supervisor of a large a large business will be my future career. My job would entail according to managementstudyguide.com, overseeing the subordinates at work at the factory level, the supervisor is a part of the management team and he holds the designation of first line managers. His primary job is to manage the workers at operative level of management. Some issues that may be face during my job as a Supervisor are some members of a group assign may not want to complete their assign task and employees do not want to listen and want to do their own thing.

C. Social Loafing may be applied to my future career as a Supervisor. When there is a goal to achieve, each member is assign to do a specific task to help reach that goal. Therefore, according to Businessdictionary.com, some members do not put in their share of work under the assumption that others' efforts will cover their shortfall called the Free-rider effect or where the other (fully performing) members lower their efforts in response to the free-riders' attitude called the Sucker effect. Some group members do not want to complete the desired task given because they may feel there are enough persons in the group that can do the job. The higher the amount of group

    I remember a time in school when we had to do a project with a team of classmates. We were supposed to come up with an idea for a business and set up everything about the business such as the name, type of business, how it would be managed and so on. There were four students in the group and we were able to get many different ideas about what type of business we should have and what the names would be. Each person was able to be in charge of different parts of assignment, and that way no one was required to do a large amount of work in a set time. Although we did get an A, there were some failures as well. Some students in the group were more willing to give input and weren’t afraid to speak up about their ideas. Others had to be pushed for ideas and tended to go along with what the others thought was a good decision even if they might not have agreed. Even when it was time to divvy of the work, there were discrepancies. I particularly didn’t like the idea of giving each person something different to do, only because some in the group didn’t really care about the project as much as others and I felt they weren’t trying their best on their part.     Social loafing occurs when people work together and when their “output” is combined leaving no one to feel solely accountable for the completed task. Social loafing occurs on many different types of tasks including ones requiring physical effort (Szymanski & Harkins, 1987). Due to social loafing effect we hypothesized that people in groups would leave behind more trash then groups of one to two people. We wanted to see if larger groups left more trash thinking that either they would not be held accountable for it, or that their friends would pick up their slack.
