Social Work Personal Statement
I have chosen to study social work as it a passion of mine to work with children and families including adults, I would love to help and provide care for those who are vulnerable at a disadvantage or simply seeking advice and support. I understand that Social work is an extremely difficult profession to work in, due to the intense workloads required for this role and to the sensitivity of some cases, but I love the challenge especially with such a rewarding outcome of improving the quality of someone's life

Studying Health and social care at Level 2 and 3 has given me an insight in working within this area of profession, as a part of this course I have undertaken the study of various topics including Psychology, Counselling Theory and Practice, Law and Sociology as well as others which are essential modules that relate within social work BSc. These topics have given me a better understanding of how social workers can intervene and help during difficult time to guide and protect a wide range of individuals with different needs for example people facing or suffering with personal difficulties, disabilities, mental health issues and other circumstances.

In November 2009, the Care Council produced ‘Social Work Career Pathway, A Discussion Paper’. This paper sets out a plan for developing a national career pathway for social workers in Wales, linked to a framework for post qualifying education and training. The proposed career pathway is intended to strengthen the retention of experienced social workers in frontline roles. It is also designed to ensure that social workers have the necessary knowledge and skills, and access to learning and support, to help them deliver high-quality services at all stages of their careers. The career pathway caters for newly-qualified social workers, as well as experienced practitioners, and the development of new roles such as the Consultant Social Worker. The career pathway discussion paper was the subject of a report to Care Council in January 2010. The paper was circulated widely to and discussed by stakeholders including with the National Strategic Advisory Partnership for Social Work Training, the Welsh Assembly Government, the Association of Directors of Social Services. Overall, there is support for the career pathway model and the opportunity it presents for raising the status of the social work profession and standards of practice. The proposed career pathway and associated Continuing Professional Education and Learning (CPEL) framework has been presented to the Social Work and Social Care Workforce Task Group established by the Deputy Minister for Social Services. The Task Group has agreed that the career pathway and CPEL framework should be recommended to the Deputy Minister when the Task Group reports in November 2010. - See more at: http://www.ccwales.org.uk/career-pathway-for-social-workers/#sthash.bSqsF8to.dpuf…

In this essay I will discuss how I feel that I have developed personally and professionally as a social work student during the first level of the degree course. Ever since I was in fourth grade, I have enjoyed helping kids and watching them learn new things and grow. The best feeling is helping children with something and watching their faces light up as they discover what they can do all by themselves. While in fourth and fifth grade, I was a part of the buddy program at my school which entailed spending every lunch in the special education classroom at my elementary school. A trait I possess is being sequential and that is useful for the career I want because it will help me with staying organized and grading papers. I am an analyzer, I like to know what is going on around me and love to know how things work. This is a trait that comes in handy with being an elementary school teacher.…

Reflecting back on this course, my impression on the field of Social Work embraces that this fields rests far more diverse and incriminated into society than I previously thought; “Not only do they help the individuals cope with the situation at hand, they advocate for them and seek out valuable resources and other means of support for the affected person(s)” (XXX). Prior to this course, I detained a misconception that social workers predominantly counseled individuals, when in reality, social workers integrate collaboration, advocacy, investigating, counseling, planning, monitoring, and organizing into their occupational responsibilities. Assisting in a vast array of societal facets, social workers rely on theories and frameworks to pilot…
