This quote is the most crucial because it describes that the people in the community of the book couldn’t decide their own family and marriages are assigned to them by the Chief Elder.The genders are also chosen for the families, one male and one female. Their society couldn’t have the same genders even if they wanted to. It isn’t fair because it isn’t their decision. Everyone’s desire is to decide if they want to become married and who they want to be married to, also having children of their own.
