During the play, Juliet's feelings about being married off to Paris were completely disregarded. If society would've been evolved enough at that time to realize that feelings matter, Juliet wouldn't have died. Juliet and Romeo would not have had to arrange to be married in secret, they would've been able to be open about the fact that they are in love, Juliet wouldn't have to take the sedative, and ultimately they wouldn't have to both die.
On the other hand, many would argue that the deaths of Romeo and Juliet were the responsibility of an individual character. This is not probable because the actions of every single character was what ultimately led to their deaths. There is no way to accurately pin the blame on one character by themselves. Because of the actions of all of the characters, Romeo and Juliet died. When reading through the play, the blame can eventually be traced back totally to the societal standards of the time rather than a single character or set of
