We need to beware of behavioral warning signs can be anything for hitting, biting, startled from routines or events, extreme mood swings, sudden behavior changes, withdrawn from playing with their peers are just some of the signs. There are lots of reasons related to this issue such as Poverty, Trauma, and Inadequate Treatment. Social-emotional and mental health issues can be identified in children in their early years. We need to be able to find culturally competent services
that can involve families. At the state level we need to ensure that families have access to the necessary, quality care that’s needed for them to grow up and live healthy and productive lives.
Some things we can do to help support children’s social and emotional development would be to treat all children with kindness and respect regardless of ethnicity, gender or background. Children need to feel respected by the adults in their lives and we can do this in a nurturing manner. We can also provide a pleasant atmosphere and have a physical environment that will help the children learn and ensure them that they will be safe and secure.
We can let the children use their words to discuss how they feel and talk about what had happen. Then we can help them resolve the conflict that is bothering them. First we can go over what happen so we can be sure they understand. Keep the situation simple and stay calm while talking about the problem. Then we can brainstorm of what can be done the next time that something happens. In the end we need to remember tp guide and discipline appropriate for the age of the child.
As a CCHA we can work closely with staff, to help identify children who may have health and behavior concerns. Then we can work with a CCHC and work on developing good invention strategies and action plan. By putting an action plan in place we can focus on improving the social and emotional development of young children. We also need to be sure that parents and teachers continue to talk with one another about any problems. Also, we need to be sure to follow up on any activities since we can be the key contact of the child care program.
