From the Functionalist perspective they would say that people of different race categorize themselves in different In-groups. Meaning the group together with people of the same race and believes. When you bring people together that share the same beliefs that can cause this racial prejudice, because they will group together and stay clear of that other group. An in-group can build negative feelings and negative thoughts on the other group, and that is where that racial prejudice is created, the negative feelings about different racial groups. Discrimination works the same way. An example of individual discrimination could be Donald Trump a part of the Republican party having his negative beliefs towards Hillary Clinton who is apart of the Democratic Party.

The racial prejudice, the hate towards another race is created based on the labels we are taught. Each race is given a label. The same thing goes for discrimination, we feel towards another person the way we were raised to feel we do not know any different or any better. An example of individual discrimination from this perspective could be in a school. Two children, one black and one white can not stand each other they don't even know each other, but the have such strong feeling for each other, the reason for this is because their parents have filled their minds with negative thoughts about the other race causing the children to not like that race based on how they were
